Perfection. That is the only word I need to describe our recent (August 9-17) stay at Weezie’s. We stayed in the spacious King Oceanfront Suite, and it is amazing! We had a full kitchen with full-sized fridge, gas stovetop and oven, coffee maker, and sink (no microwave), sitting area, and a super-comfy king bed with a view right out to our beach “front yard.” The wondeful dock extends out into the sea, has loungers and palapas, and is the perfect place to view the great sunrises. For people who are concerned about the sargassum currently present that you often hear about (It’s seasonal.), I can assure you that it was absolutely no big deal for us at all. Do not let this deter you in the least. The beach areas Weezie’s has created, the dock, and the amazing pools are all you need. The landscaping around the pool that was closest to our room was luscious and provided shade although plenty of sun was also available. One of the stunning things about this hotel is the quiet location. On our second day, my husband commented, “This is the quietest place we have ever been.”||We took the private boat transport from and to the BZE airport. It’s not inexpensive but was worth every penny, in my opinion. We were met by John at the airport where we were driven to a private dock. John then took us on a fantastic 1-hour boat ride right to the dock at Weezie’s. On the way back, it was just as easy going from Weezie’s back to the airport. ||Now to another wonderful part of our Weezie’s experience: the staff and incredible customer service. From manager Roberto to concierge extraordinaire Selvin at the front desk to Daniel and John on the boats to Fernando (who kept all the areas ship-shape by raking all day long) to the housekeepers who came daily to the wait staff in the restaurant (Jocelyn, Emily, Shamira, Sondra, and Anna in the back) and so many more, we experienced nothing but friendly, caring service. We were always met with a friendly greeting and a smile by everyone on the property. ||We ate most of our meals at the hotel because the food was delicious and varied enough that you never tired of it. The nightly specials were either fish or shrimp dishes and always yummy. For breakfast, I can’t tell you how great the banana bread is! ||An added bonus for me was the hotel cat Max who visited us often. I missed our kitty so our visits with Max were much appreciated.||Weezie’s staff connected us with whatever activities and services we wanted. ||The first day, they set us up with taxi driver Cal. I got his WhatsApp and was able to contact him whenever we wanted to go anywhere. He was 100% responsive to all my texts and a super nice guy.||I highly recommend a day trip to the Lamanai Mayan Ruins. Weezie’s arranged everything for us. We took the ferry from Caye Caulker to Belize City, which was a great experience. At the ferry terminal, Mr. José met us and drove us about 90 minutes to where the boat left for the site of the ruins. Our guide Ian was waiting to take us (along with 3 others) on a winding boat ride up the river for about 60 minutes to the Lamanai Ruins. He then led our small party of 5 through the ruins. His knowledge and ability to effectively communicate all the information about the Mayan civilization was top notch. After the tour, he served us an incredible lunch that had been prepared by his mother: rice and beans, stew chicken, fried plantains, cole slaw, chips, and a to-die-for homemade pico de gallo. After that, we had some time to shop at the gift shop and visit the museum then boarded the boat for our return trip. There were so many moving parts to this excursion, and the fact that all of them came off without a hitch was truly impressive.||We did the 1/2 day snorkeling trip through Weezie’s. Highly recommend! Daniel was our guide and boat driver. I hadn’t snorkeled in 40 years, and he was so kind and reassuring to make sure I felt comfortable. Right after plopping into the water on our first stop, here came a Manatee that swam so close to us we could almost have touched it. I had never seen a Manatee, so you can imagine my excitement! Other highlights of the 3-hour trip were Nurse Sharks, Stingrays, beautiful coral, and lots of colorful fish. The coral garden was stunning.||I booked a 60-minute massage with Shirlette, and it rivaled any massage I’ve had. Really, really good. And to make it even better, it was done on a massage table out on Weezie’s dock overlooking the sea. Pull-down shades on three sides allowed for total privacy.||So I now go back to my first comment about our stay: Perfection||We are already planning a...
Read moreWe stayed at Weezie's 4 nights (3/16/22 to 3/20/2022) in the Penthouse for which I paid $1658 American. My impression is that it is one of the more expensive and nicer options on Caye Caulker. We walked by many less expensive places during our stay that seemed to be busy but I don’t think I would have been happy. Weezie’s is very nice and not the right place for a budget vacation.
The pictures and descriptions on Weezie’s website are accurate. The grounds are well maintained with flowering plants and has a lovely pool that was typically occupied by 2-6 guests although we had it to ourselves a couple of times. There were plenty of deck chairs for the space and while guests were friendly, most seemed to want to relax quietly which is what I was looking for! There is a long pier with deck chairs and access to the ocean past any sea grass. There are kayaks and paddle boards available for free (large heavy and durable ones that are fine for getting out on water close by) and bicycles for rent for $5/day.
Our room was 1 bedroom with a king bed, full kitchen and a private balcony with an amazing view that worth the premium price. There were two deck chairs and 2 Adirondack chairs on the patio. The kitchen had everything you would need including ice trays in the freezer of the near full sized fridge. The room was clean and housekeeping cleaned daily. My only minor complaint about the room was that the bath towels and pool towels are not very large and certainly not luxurious. We didn’t ask for extra but the two of each they gave us stayed damp or wet most of the time with normal use. There are no extra towels at the pool. Something more substantial and readily accessible would not be out of line even if trying to be environmentally friendly. There is a second pool on the grounds but we did not venture there or to the cottages.
There are 2 AC units, one in the bedroom which got the room as cold as we could stand it and one in the living room which kept the space comfortable during the hottest hours and cool late evening/early morning. We discovered that the living room AC stopped cooling our third evening there after the office closed and the living room was VERY warm even after we opened the sliding doors and the windows. Too warm to enjoy the space. I reported it as soon as the office opened my last full day and by mid-afternoon they put in a portable AC unit that helped a lot. The service they use to repair the AC was not available to come on a Saturday afternoon so I think they did as well as they could, given the limitations of the island.
The restaurant is convenient for breakfast and quality was good although we only ate there once. We chose to walk to town (15 minutes along the ocean) for all of our meals other than our first day breakfast. Il Pellicino Cuchina Italiana and Pasta Per Caso Anna & Armando were excellent and Ice N Beans is great for coffee and bagels or smoothies. The full bar at Weezie’s is great as well.
The staff were all friendly, helpful and accommodating before and during out stay. The hotel is a short walk from the airport and we did not need transportation but it was very hot mid-day and the road is bumpy. If you don’t want to drag your luggage in the heat, ask about getting help. All of our other plans including booking a snorkeling trip were handled by Email. We had a great ½ day snorkeling adventure with Victor from Reef Snorkeling Tours. Highly recommend him.
We were very happy with our stay at Weezie’s and would definitely stay again if we return to...
Read moreWe just returned from a week at the Yellow Cottage at Weezie's. We had the most wonderful time and can't recommend it enough. The cottages are a few roads away from the ocean but honestly it was ideal. The first few days were windy so we wouldn't have been able to enjoy the patio if we were beach front. Since we were back a few blocks we sat out every night enjoying the rain, tropical foliage and flowers. We had some excellent bat views too. They never bothered us but did take care of the mosquitoes that would have otherwise eaten us up. Fireflies and the occasional passersby made for a relaxing evening.
Lots of great food spots (including the new Weezies restaurant for breakfast and lunch) close by. The Weezies dock is wonderful and the staff are always checking in to make sure you are happy, have a snack or a delicious drink. We enjoyed the chocolate croissants at Suggestions, the curry and burritos at Caye of Flavors were awesome and well priced (Erica is wonderful), Godfrey's has the best fryjacks for breakfast, Il Peliccano was a great treat, Steve's grill is tiny but worth the wait and the street food was delicious.
Red Flower Gallery and Boutique is well worth a trip. Paulette has really great natural bug bite cream (don't miss!), lots of good local recommendations and beautiful art.
Rent a bike and tour the island as much as possible. Once you say you're good anyone trying to sell you anything is welcoming and not pushy. Go snorkling and see all the amazing sights. We used Cavemans and they were really knowledgeable, great guides and put me at ease when I got anxious.
We waffled on going to Ambergris Caye vs Caye Caulker and if you like hustle and bustle, lots of people and late night drinking go to Ambergris. If you want great food, kind people and a truly relaxing vacation go to Caye Caulker!! Stay at Weezies and enjoy excellent service in an incredible setting.
Additionally, there is a ground crew of 5 guys who clean up the Island. They are paid less than $2/hr and do a great job. We saw Weezies employees on multiple occasions cleaning up the Island outside of the property which we found very heartening.
We were a group of 4 but I went out on multiple occasions alone and felt completely safe as a woman. After a few days we got to know some of the locals and they always say hi. Lots of local pups to pet and the Caye Caulker Animal Shelter is worth a visit and a donation. Lots of locals let their pups run around during the day but there aren't any skinny strays like other destinations.
I hope to come back...
