A hotel to Avoid, total disaster: Check-in - Tried to check in at 5pm and was told by sorry there are no rooms available and there is nothing that can be done at the moment. Check-in staff ware rude and when I complained about there being no rooms available they were totally dismissive and I was told to complain to the manager. After a tiring 4 hour journey this attitude is totally unacceptable. I eventually got at room after 45 minutes of arguing..
Room - Room actually was ok although but not totally clean in the bathroom. However, later on just before going out to dinner reservation we discovered the safe was not working. A safe is essential for us as we had our passports, cash and about $4000 worth of watches, and computers with us. Rang reception and was told that they would send someone but could not tell me when because maintenance were very busy and also they were very busy in reception. After waiting 20 minutes rang up several times again and was told the same thing. Several attempts later and after 40 minutes someone from maintenance arrived and had to change the safe. This whole episode delayed us for over an hour and meant we had to rebook out dinner reservation. It seems there was only one maintenance person on duty for a hotel with over 400 rooms.
Bar: - There is no manned bar! We wanted a glass of wine but had to go to the restaurant and ask someone there if we could have some wine. After 20 minutes of waiting, two glasses of wine were eventually given to us which we had to drink it at a table by the entrance to the restaurant.
Breakfast - decided not to have at the hotel as it looked very busy, disorganised and would have only added to our stress levels.
Overall - Could have been such a nice stay but hotel was busy, noisy and clearly had seen better days. Additionally our stay was spoilt by overstretched staff who were on the most part rude and dismissive and lacked even the most basic customer service ethos. The management need to get a grip and...
Read moreThe first thing I was asked when checking in at 1pm was "What category are you?". I got no YES or NO based on the actual availability. I could only check in at 2pm.
The HVAC (A/C) is noisy and the wall-mounted control will not not let you effectively set the fan to a lower speed. The only way to stop the A/C was actually to remove the card-based key from the wall-mounted card reader, implying in no A/C at all, no room lights and no TV.
On the other hand, the shower pressure is very good. The soup and shampoo brand they use is very good.
The breakfast is okay. The cheff provides you with a fresh scrambled eggs for which you can choose ingredients. This was nice.
The wifi was flapping all the time. Sometimes it did not even authenticate on the authorization portal! Very bad and unreliable if you really need to participate in meetings. Unreliable.
Bottomline: considering I have paid almost 400 brazilian reais or each day of the stay, and considering the inability to let me check in one hour in advance, combined with the very problematic A/C that never cooled down the room as much as I wanted, my conclusion is: you can find a better hotel for the money. I do not recommend this hotel.
Staff managers: please please explain to your staff that asking someone's category should never be the very first question to ask to a tired guest arriving to your facilities. Remember: I am an ordinary non-gold non-diamond guest but if you treat me like that I will never want to upgrade and I will prefer to give another chain a chance!
That single event effectivey turned my perception of your...

Complimentary breakfast was adequate. Breakfast dinning room could use renovation. Restaurant waitstaff were present, but that's about it. That seems like the norm in SP. Receptionists were nice and spoke English. A few homeless people camped outside, but I never felt threatened. I was told not to use my cellphone, so picture taking and Google mapping were limited. The front desk were able to print out paper maps and indicate directions. Wifi was good, but I had to re-log on everyday for a 5 day stay. Shower worked great, good pressure and hot. I didn't find any English TV stations, but I am in Brazil! Maybe I didn't know how to work the TV. A menu in my room would have been nice, but not so due to Covid-19, I assume. Perhaps I didn't see it or it was online. I never asked. Bedding and sheets were comfortable. I would stay again...
