No hesitation in recommending this hotel which is perfectly located 1 minute from Praca da Republica. The metro station is that same one minute away and the stop for the airport bus is just 4 minutes away on the other side of the square. Everything was just so easy. Thanks to the location of the Gran Corona, we arrived via airport bus. Toured the city by Metro. Easily walked to many of the main sites. Caught a cab late at night. Enjoyed the life that surrounds the square. All this just outside the hotel door When out Stay Aware. Such is the homeless situation in Sao Paulo, there are many poor souls sleeping on the street. Take care when moving around. It’s OK in the day but at night and on Sundays when it is quieter, be extra vigilant Some say it is an hotel that is a little past its prime and maybe some of that “gran” has gone. But with older hotels you do get some advantages. Large spacious rooms complete with office area, seating area, mini bar with fridge, large bedroom area and big bathroom shower. It was spotlessly clean, had fast free internet and a breakfast buffet spread that was excellent. Some of those old fashioned values were apparent in the staff who were polite, helpful and so willing to help. Put aside your prejudice of old. Try the Gran Corona – it really is worthwhile. And hey, you may get lucky (?) and get a room with an avocado bathroom suite. Now there is an antique...
Read moreIf you are looking for a modern hotel do not go to the Gran Corona.||This hotel is old style, vintage, but this is its charm.||The rooms are showing their age, but they are clean and comfortable, breakfast is good (although a bit repetitive ), the restaurant is good, and in fact known in the area. The WiFi line works well in all rooms and in the lounge.||The hotel is located a stone's throw from Praza da Republica, which means that the subway gets you quickly to other parts of the city. On this square every Sunday morning is a nice market where they sell all kinds of typical Brazilian artifacts.||I've used this hotel for many years, I go to Sao Paolo at least three times every year for my job, and I always come back here because the staff is very helpful and friendly, it's nice to get there and feel welcome with your name and a warm handshake (or with a pat on the back, in the Brazilian manner). ||I know the staff, always willing to help (you have spotted a dress? Do you need the room to be made up at particular times? Need any directions to a store? ... ).||Just outside you will find typical restaurants and shops, the area is not the best in town, this is not a tourist area, but it is safe and dangerous like the rest of the city, while here you can savor the...
Read moreWhile this hotel has lost its former glory, one can still see that it was once a 4-star hotel. ||The staff were extremely professional, particularly in the restaurant. They were all very friendly and helpful. Breakfast was excellent with yummy scrambled eggs, fresh and sweet fruit and other good variety of selections. The location was the reason why I chose this hotel - 3 minute walk to metro and 5 minute walk to aeroport bus services. Walkable distance to most attractions - even Paulista if you really want. ||||However, the facilities were very tired and dated. Dark corridors; shaky door lock; no window lock - which was the biggest problem because we were on 3rd floor and although unlikely, there was possibility of break-in. Ask for rooms on higher floors would avoid this problem. ||||I enjoyed staying in the hotel and I felt I have been well looked after. However, the surrounding streets are a little scary with many homeless people. So I would definitely come back if I were to stay in the Centro - however for security concerns I would probably consider staying in Paulista or Jardin...
