The hostel was exactly what it advertised itself to be (very loud and party), but we did struggle with a few things.
-We booked an all-female dorm that ended up having 2 men in it. We've stayed in mixed dorms before, that's not an issue. But I don't like that we were told something was available when it wasn't. Just call it a mixed dorm. -The door to the dorm room didn't work so it always had to be kept ajar, making the music louder and the possibility of anyone walking in at any time higher. And if the door was ever closed, we had to get a staff member to come let us into our room. This problem was never fixed for the duration of our stay despite staff being aware it was an issue. -The bathroom door bolt was so rusted it was a challenge to get in and out. We did get stuck in there a few times 😅. -The lights and outlets on our beds didn't work a lot of the time. Couldn't use my charger (it worked fine in restaurants and another hostel) at all in the room, so keeping my phone battery up was a challenge. -Staff would come into the rooms at 11:30pm with walkie talkies and turn on lights. The loud music is completely understandable and expected, but if people are sleeping in a room (many tours have a 4am wakeup call), this isn't the best practice.
It was all just a lot. We lasted two days and then decided to move to a hostel up the street.
Staff were very friendly. Pool was lovely. Tons of comfy seating available. Huge locker space under the beds for all your stuff. And above all else, incredibly well-priced. Definitely some good perks. So if you're into partying, this is probably a good choice for you. But just be aware of some of the additional problems...
Read moreExpectation/Reality: The rooms and the photos were pretty close, and you will get pretty much what you expect. The bed is a foam top which isn't bad.Security: Generally secure. No safe, and the key is attached to the bracelet, but the location and the space felt secure.Hygiene: Generally good. You may have to ask for fresh towels, but the space itself was clean.Hospitality: Quite good, everyone speaks english and is fairly competent.Social Atmosphere: WARNING this is a party hostel. Music will be playing until mid night, so if you want to sleep early you need very good ear plugs. There's lots of events and lots of people to socialize with, typically they are around 21-22 years old, but there are older and younger, generally a good crowd. The volunteers organizing the events are just OK and doing their job, not the most keen or enthusiastic, but reasonably good enough.Overall: Good value for a private room. Good location to see the touristy sights. BEWARE don't book transport through the hostel. It seems convenient but it not a good experience. You get picked up by a tuk tuk, dropped off outside of town and wait by the side of the road were no one speaks english to get into a jam packed into van with broken AC, and no one speaks english, the van left about an hour behind schedule and when arriving at Phnom Penh, it was a dodgy experience, getting into another van alone to be dropped off into the next hostel. It was an uncomfortable adventure, but I did arrive safe, but if i did it again I would book transport through a provider with more direct...
Read moreThis review is for ” Tee” @ tour office- On Monday, April 1, 2019 I arrived at this hostel and had questions about transportation from Seam Reap to the Phnom Penh, Cambodia. I went to reception and a kind young lady directed me across the street to the “Tour Guide” desk. Immediately, this man behind the desk, Tee, in a stern voice said, “ you check in? Over there you check in!” I stated back, I’m not checking in, I wanted information about transportation. He didn’t say anything back. - long story short, things escalated, he was very scamy about the Services. There was a bus leaving in one hour. He acted like there was no bus. I then told him there was a bus leaving at 8:30pm. He replied “it’s 8:30pm now” i states back, no sir, it’s 7:30pm. He then replied, “but it may be full.” I then said,” that’s understandable, let’s call and check.” He proceeded to call. Space was available. Then when it came time to pay, I told him I had Thai Baht, which I knew is widely accepted in Cambodia. He proceeded to up the price from 12 USD to 500baht, which is around 16usd. He ever stated to me that I was giving him problems and why do I have to be difficult. In my head I was thinking that I have to triple check everything because of scamy people like “tee” . If that is being difficult, then so be it. In the end, i received my bus ticket, Tee got to pocket some money. I asked him his name before leaving and he stated it was William. (It’s Tee) Pure liar. I spoke with Manager Tom about this and Tom was very receptive and listened...
