Royal Lodge Edmonton — Hotel in Edmonton

Pros - The room is pretty good, with newer bathroom fixtures, mini fridge, and a decent size tv.

Cons - I stayed several days and it was several days too many... The WiFi, when it works, is incredibly slow. The tv turned on but I had to setup the connection it to the motel's wifi in order to be able to use it. I quickly realized though, that every single effing time I turned the tv on, I had to set up the wireless wifi connection again! Every. Single. Time. When I complained to the manager, he tried and couldn't figure it out. The remote had either buttons that didn't work or you had to press the button down so incredibly hard, that watching tv just became too frustrating. I ended up just watching shows on my phone.

You need a special key to get into the laundry room. When I asked the manager for change to do laundry, he never told me that the machines took Exact change only and he didn't give me exact change - even though the sole purpose of going to the office was to get a laundry key so I could do laundry. He gave me toonies and only a couple loonies. The washer is $5 and takes ONLY loonies. The dryer is $2.75 and ONLY accepts 2 loonies and 3 quarters. You can't use 7 quarters and 1 loonie... Only 2 loonies and 3 quarters. The vending machine that is in the office only accepts MasterCard or Visa - no cash, no debit, no debit-visa.

There are people screaming in the parking lot at all hours of the night and day. In the several days I was there, the cops showed up twice with one time blocking off the whole parking lot and eventually a vehicle was towed away. As I was leaving, some druggie was leaving one of the other rooms screaming about how he was going to kill...

So this review is made about a year after my stay and i just remembered about it. The staff for the most part was nice, the room was pretty gross however. There was stains on the sheets and shower curtain, the carpets were not cleaned well or if at all and the toilet on my arrival had pee in it still. And talk about a sketchy area! Some guy was walking up and down the balcony all day, I went outside for a smoke and he stood at the bottom of the stairs staring at me, I went back to my room and locked the door and a couple minutes later he tried opening my door then a couple minutes later did the same to the occupied room below me. He actually opened their door and attacked them with what sounded like a taser but the guy staying there was quite a bigger guy and I could hear him tossing this guy around. I called front desk and they didn't seem concerned at all about the situation.

I probably won't ever stay in another hotel/motel in...

So very disappointed in this booking. The customer service, if it can be called that was horrendous. Upon checking in huge amounts of mould were found all over the bathroom. Blood on the lampshade. Sticky weird substances all over the walls. The bed sheets were stained. Cabinets broken. The walls were all marked up and visibly damaged. Drug users in the room next door, visibly doing drugs. Staff did nothing about anything. I will be making a complain to AHS due to the extremely unsanitary conditions. The mould being the worst. When told about it staff just shrugs and sluffs it off. Do not recommend to anyone staying here. Maybe if rooms were 30 a night. I paid 100 a night and it was absolutely disgusting. If I could have cancelled and gone somewhere else I would have. These people should be ashamed of how they are running this place. People are going to get sick or hurt. They are totally just taking...
