This review is a little different than most of what you'll likely see.
To be objective, there aren't really any great Chinese places in Edmonton. That does not mean the restaurants cannot make great food. Sadly, Edmonton is generally speaking, one of those markets where upscale Chinese cuisine cannot survive. Thus, welcome to the endless places that survive off regular staples such as Dim Sum.
My perspective of this place, and some other Chinese restaurants as well, is that you get what you pay for. There are some fancy dishes that can be had if you knew what to order; however, know that the prices you're paying are going to be expensive (think to the tune of of your fine dining establishments and above). The other thing to note is the ingredients are not usually stocked in advance (since there is generally no market for expensive Chinese dishes).
If you're ready for some spending and don't mind some discussion, I would suggest having a nice sit down with the staff there (when it's not busy) to plan out some extravagant meal. Either your or them can get fresh ingredients from afar (e.g. king crab) to be prepared in delicious ways.
Payment: Visa, debit, cash
Parking: Ample parking space
Worst time to go: Lunch on a weekend. All the families go for dum sum at the same time!
Noise: Extremely lively when busy
Food quality: Generally good if you're not looking for the exotic stuff. Have a sit down discussion if you want something nicer and are willing to pay lots.
Value: Great if you're just having dim sum. Everything else is more expensive, though there are some very good dishes
Kid friendliness: Lots of high chairs and booster seats. Washrooms gave change tables (not super high quality but at least there is one, even in the male washroom). No kids menu. The kids will like watching the live fish tanks.
Bathroom cleanliness: Soap and paper is stocked properly. Generally clean, but not spic and span.
Restaurant size: Massive. Good for banquets.
Must have: Nicey cooked high quality seafood...
Read moreFirst of all, I want to apologize for this lengthy post. I am not used to being treated like trash and I need to share.
We went to Beijing Beijing Restaurant for dim sum this weekend. We were there for an hour. The 5 of us spent $200. We paid and then sat for a few minutes chatting. We were told we had to leave because they needed the table.
This was so rude and disrespectful. It is not as if we sat there hogging the table and only ordered a couple of dishes. We spent a good sum of money and after lunch we just wanted to say our good byes etc. for a few minutes.
I wonder if this treatment was because we were Canadian and English speaking and not Chinese speaking. If we had ordered in Chinese I do believe we would have been treated with respect and been allowed to sit at our table for a few extra minutes after paying the bill.
I had planned on taking the family here for a huge Christmas dinner but will not. We may be forced to shovel food down so fast, the elderly may choke. I am sure another Chinese Restaurant in Edmonton will welcome our patronage.
Business must be good that Beijing Beijing can pick and choose the nationality of their customers to respect. I do believe this is true!
I can see from the lack of response to comments from this business that Beijing Beijjing does not value or care about customer service or customer experiences when dining at the restaurant. I have been told by acquaintances of the owner that he DOES NOT CARE ABOUT GOOGLE REVIEWS…BECAUSE business is good. The Chinese community knows that the owner is rude and hateful, but they go just because there is a lack of dim sum reataurants in the south side of Edmonton. People will put up with being treated like trash for convenience!?
We usually go the IMPERIAL PALACE RESTAURANT downtown for Dim Sum, but my friends wanted to stay on the South Side. Won’t...
Read moreOver the years, I've attended this restaurant over a dozen times. From dim sum, dinners, special events and banquets. Two months ago, we went there for dim sum and the food was below average and expensive. Yesterday however, was the last straw. The food quality and portions have been steadily decreasing while the price has been increasing. We ordered the seafood dinner for 6 that I think was $218. We were a group of 2 adult males, 2 adult females, 1 elderly female and a child under 6. Before I get to the quality, there was nothing leftover because there was hardly anything to eat. Each dish that came out, looked like half an order. The seafood soup base tasted like MSG and water, and the "seafood" tasted nothing like seafood. I think even the vinegar was watered down. The lobster dish did not even come on a bed of noodles and the sauce was lumpy and flavourless. The cold chicken was all rubbery skin and bones with no meat. The shrimp and vegetable dish had about 10 little shrimp. The bok choy and mushroom dish was floating in a watery grey sauce that looked so unappealing and tasted even worse. The fish and tofu dish was perhaps the best of them all but it only had three slim cuts of fish. Finally the tapioca and bean dessert was thin and lacking in tapioca. I normally don't eat a whole bowl of it because it is usually too sweet but because I was so hungry I did in an attempt to satisfy my hunger. Alas, that was not the case and I went home and made myself something to eat. In conclusion, if you want to go to a place that is dirty from the entrance, dinning room to the outhouse, pay a lot for a little bit of poorly cooked food and leave the place hangry, then this is the place of...
