🇨🇦 Edmonton: Top Long Weekend Getaways (Part 1)

I was looking forward to checking out this place as I have heard great things about it. Unfortunately, my friend and I didn't have a good experience. First, we were told to wait for half an hour, which was fine. We went to H Mart to kill time instead. Then, we came back to the place after almost half an hour, hoping we could be seated. However, the staff said that we had to wait for another 20-30 mins. We were confused, but we shrugged it off, hoping that the desserts would be worth the wait. Then, we finally got a call 15 mins after. The interior of the place was so bright and beautiful. As for the menu, we were quite surprised with the price range of the food. We've been to countless dessert places in the city, and the average price for desserts is $6 - $12. But then again, we were excited to try what D spot has to offer. I ordered the Royalty, which is a Ferrero rocher crepe. My friend ordered the white chocolate brownie. The first food that arrived was the white chocolate brownie, and we were outraged to see that the "brownie" was a sponge cake, different from what is written in the menu and pictured on their social media post. The server also explained that the shape of the "brownie" is changed every day. (The "brownie" came in a circle shape while the picture shows it as square.). The whole dessert was okay, but we can't justify the price. When my Royalty arrived, I asked the server for the vanilla ice cream, which was stated on the menu. The server immediately said that it didn't come with ice cream. Then, I saw another server running to our table with the ice cream. This left me so confused. The servers apologized, which is appreciated. Before our original server left, I told her about our concern with the white chocolate brownie. She kept explaining about the shape, which wasn't the issue. The issue was it was not a brownie; it was a sponge cake. Overall, the whole experience was not great. We had high expectations of the place. Unfortunately, I would no longer return to this place or even try the other branches. I find the food overpriced and doesn't meet the quality of other dessert places. My suggestion: - Do more training for your staff, so they feel confident (I felt sorry for our server cause she was trying so hard to explain everything to us). - Review your consistency and quality (If you don't have a brownie to offer, let your customers know instead of serving them a different dessert such as a sponge cake).

We visited D Spot Dessert Café last night, and as soon as we stepped inside, the rich aroma of chocolate and the cheerful, beautifully designed decor instantly transported me back to my childhood — I couldn't help but smile. The vibrant interior feels magical and inviting, and the menu is seemingly endless, packed with delicious and exciting creations that make it hard to choose. This time, we ordered “Caught My Eye” — a decadent combination of chocolate cake, kunafa, pistachios, Belgian white and milk callets, pistachio sauce, and Belgian milk chocolate sauce. We also tried a scoop of cardamom ice cream, a mint tea, and a Karak tea. The Karak tea was absolutely fantastic — not too sweet, with just the right balance of spice and warmth. Half way through, we noticed that there was a teabag inside. In other places we've tried, karak tea is usually brewed and served without a teabag, so this was unexpected for us. It didn’t take away from the flavor, but it stood out. So be careful to remove it before the tea gets too strong. It's definitely something we'll come back for. The dessert was rich and indulgent, and I’m glad we shared it; it would have been quite a challenge for one person alone! The only small letdown was the cardamom ice cream. It didn’t have the creamy texture or strong cardamom aroma we were hoping for, and it had a slightly off taste — almost like it had freezer burn. Still, it paired nicely with the dessert to help balance out the richness of the chocolate. The staff were incredibly friendly and welcoming, adding to the overall warm, magical vibe of the place. We will definitely be returning to explore more of their creative and tempting menu items.

I don’t even know where to start because honestly, Judy at D Spot completely redefined what it means to be a server. I’ve been to countless restaurants, and I’ve never encountered anyone remotely like her. From the moment we walked in, Judy made us feel not just welcomed, but genuinely seen and cared for. She had this incredible mix of warmth, professionalism, and intuition that made the entire dining experience feel effortless and magical.

First of all, Judy’s attentiveness was beyond anything I could have imagined. She didn’t just take our order—she anticipated what we might need before we even realized it ourselves. Water refills? Always on time, before we could even glance at our glasses. Extra napkins? Already at the table. She seemed to have this almost supernatural radar for what we were feeling and when we needed it. It wasn’t just service; it was an art form. At multiple points, she caught little things we hadn’t even noticed, like when one of our friends needed a fork switched out or when we had a last-minute request for a dish modification—Judy handled it smoothly, with a smile, making it feel like the easiest thing in the world.

Her energy is something that truly deserves its own review. Judy’s kindness wasn’t just surface-level; it radiated through every interaction. She was genuinely present, listening and engaging in a way that made us feel like more than just customers—like she actually cared about our experience. There’s a subtle, almost magical skill in the way she balances attentiveness without ever being intrusive. She knew exactly when to check in and when to give us space. She has this rare talent of making a table feel like the only one in the restaurant, even if the place is bustling.

And the little things—oh, the little things! Judy remembered tiny details, like how we liked our drinks, who preferred extra spicy, who was in the mood for something sweet after dinner. She offered suggestions that were not just recommendations, but genuinely spot-on, tailored to our tastes. Her knowledge of the menu was encyclopedic, but she delivered it in this easy, relatable way that made the entire ordering process fun and stress-free. You could tell she genuinely wanted us to have the best possible experience.

Judy’s personality is pure gold. She has this effortless charm and warmth that makes everyone around her feel instantly comfortable. She’s quick with a laugh, thoughtful with her words, and somehow manages to make every single person feel special at the same time. Watching her work is inspiring—she makes excellence look easy, and yet it’s clear she pours her heart into every detail of the service she provides.

I honestly can’t imagine going back to D Spot and not being thrilled to see Judy. She sets a new standard for what it means to serve with care, attention, and a genuine smile. If there’s any justice in the world, Judy should be recognized not just as an amazing server, but as an unforgettable part of anyone’s dining experience.

Thank you, Judy, from the bottom of my heart, for making our time at D Spot absolutely extraordinary. Your intuition, kindness, and attention to detail made the night one we will never forget. You don’t just serve food—you serve happiness, comfort, and a level of care that makes people feel truly valued. Every restaurant should be lucky to have someone like you. Please know that your efforts are seen, appreciated, and admired. You are, without question, the best, and this review is the least I could do to try to put into words how...

Just came here today at around 3:20pm and had a terrible experience. I’ve been super excited to go visit D spot again for days, and was looking forward to the food and (usually great) service. We didn’t get the name of the server but he was rude and lacked hospitality. When he came to take our order, I ordered a vanilla honey tea latte, and asked for it iced. He said “you want a side of ice?” and I said “no I would like it iced” and I thought I heard him say “it is already cold” and so I replied with “oh ok.” Later, he brings me a cup of ice and my boyfriend and I look at each other confused. Then he brings me a hot vanilla honey tea latte. So obviously I don’t drink it and immediately we tell him I wanted it iced. Then he literally clicks his tongue. What is this attitude? You’re literally in the service industry. If you’re going to click your tongue like that because you’re annoyed at your table do it in the back at least. He said that they only offer it hot and I was confused because I’ve gotten this drink iced before. Anyway, we return the drink because at this point I didn’t even want it anymore. He asked if I wanted it togo like why would I want the drink you got wrong togo? Makes no sense. So then he leaves the table with the returned drink obviously annoyed. No apology or anything. We didn’t even have a single bite into our food yet and asked for take out boxes and the bill because the experience, food, and atmosphere was ruined by this one employee. I’m not sure if this next employee was the shift lead or manager but he did apologize to us and said that they’re still in training for new employees and offered the drink on the house togo. We declined his offer because it wasn’t even about the drink. Who cares about a coffee? I cared about the way he treated us today. The attitude and lack of respect. The insincerity. The lack of hospitality. All he needed to do was apologize.

I’m usually very forgiving and never make a big deal when I go eat out because I am a server myself. A server that works in a high volume restaurant that deals with shitty customers and also had made mistakes and owned up to it by taking responsibility and trying to better their experience. I have a lot of empathy for other service workers however not this employee. He truly ruined my day and my day just started. If he’s in training and he already lacks hospitality like how did he even get hired.

Anyways, the desserts here are always 10/10. Best crepes and waffles in the city. But because of this bad experience I will never ever return to a D spot in edmonton again. It truly ruined the desserts for me. I hope he sleeps tonight with both sides of his...

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ I don’t usually leave long reviews, but this visit to D Spot absolutely deserves it. From the moment I walked in, I knew this wasn’t just your average dessert place. The space was modern, clean, and had a relaxed, welcoming vibe. Perfect lighting, good music, and the smell of fresh desserts in the air—it already felt like a great spot to unwind.

I ordered the new Lotus dessert, and it blew me away. It was served warm, beautifully plated, and every bite was rich, creamy, and full of that signature lotus flavor. It had the perfect texture—slightly crisp on the outside and melt-in-your-mouth soft on the inside. You could tell it was freshly made and not something pre-packaged or rushed. It easily ranks as one of the best desserts I’ve had anywhere.

Next, I tried the Kunafa, and if I wasn’t already impressed, this sealed the deal. It was golden, crispy, and sweet with just the right amount of syrup. The center was soft and perfectly stretchy, which is exactly what you want from a proper Kunafa. I’ve had it at places that specialize in Middle Eastern sweets, and this was right up there in quality. You could really taste the effort and care that went into preparing it.

But even with all that said, what truly made the experience stand out was the service—especially from Madvhi. They were absolutely incredible. From the start, they greeted us warmly, helped us navigate the menu, and made sure everything was perfect. They checked in at just the right times, never rushed us, and had a kind, professional energy that made the whole evening feel special. It’s rare to find someone so genuinely invested in the customer experience, and it didn’t go unnoticed. You can tell they care, and it truly makes a difference.

Even when the place started to get busy, Madvhi stayed calm, efficient, and friendly to everyone. That level of consistency and grace under pressure is hard to come by, and honestly, it left a lasting impression. If there’s any kind of recognition system at D Spot, I really hope Madvhi is at the top of it—they absolutely deserve it.

Overall, everything about this visit was spot-on. The food was delicious, the atmosphere was inviting, and the service was exceptional. Whether you’re looking for a quick dessert, a place to hang out with friends, or just somewhere to treat yourself after a long day, D Spot delivers on all fronts.

I’ll definitely be coming back—and next time, I’m bringing more people with me. Huge thank you to Madvhi and the entire team for making this such a...
