Note- we stayed here a bit over a year ago, but have been meaning to write this review and just got a new computer so figured this was a good time!- I will say while the common areas are great, the rooms could use a little bit of maintenance and there was one front desk staff who was a pain . I am still giving it four stars because of how awesome the room staff are. For some context- we were driving from Alaska to NC (road Trip) over two weeks and plan to stop in Edmonton so we could visit the biggest mall in North America! More detail- Originally I am ready to give a 1 star review and leave. We got here later than originally anticipated (around 9 PM) and I did not look put-together at all. I went to check us in because my dad has had a few strokes and so has trouble walking and my husband just does not like talking to people. The person at the front desk tells us we don't have a reservation. Odd, but it happens. I show our confirmation email and ask if we can get a room, showing how on their websites they have rooms available for the night. They say this is an error and they are sold out. Possible, but unlikely for a random Wednesday and Thursday night. I am frustrated and explain the situation to my dad and husband, who look much more put together (read- high class) than me. They go in, and immediately, the man at the front desk finds our room. We got to the room and noticed that a few things in it were broken. A couple of the outlets near and in the bathroom or not working, one of the bulb lamps are out, the TV remote needs new batteries, and there are several places in the walls in the ceilings where the paint is chipped. .Personally, I think that this room was the most in need of repairs out of all the ones we stayed at on our journey, but my dad and husband say that the paint issues were minor, though agree the outlets and lights were annoying. The redeeming factor of this whole experience is the rest of the staff. They went above and beyond for cleanliness, which is a really big thing for me and to try to make us feel as comfortable as possible. Most importantly, after we checked out the second day, I accidentally left my favorite stuffed animal because he had fallen behind the headboard. If you ever had a stuffed animal, that has been with you for 20+ years and you would run back into a burning building to save that is what this stuffed animal is for me. It is very much my emotional support stuffed animal. We got all the way to our next stop before I opened my suitcase and realized he's not there. Problem is this is our longest day of driving and so our next stop is Fargo North Dakota (about 16 hours away) I called the hotel as soon as I realized what had happened, hoping desperately that they had found him. It was a few days before I heard back, but not only did the housekeeping staff find him, but the head of housekeeping had locked him away safe, which is why it had taken them so long to get back to me (like many places, they send out their laundry, but the person cleaning our room had noticed my stuffed animal before they sent the laundry out so she had pulled him and put him away). They even offered to mail him to me! My husband has a family friend who lives in Edmonton so he ended up overnighting him to us, but the fact that the hotel was even willing to do, that was incredible! A very good ending to what started out as a...
Read moreI was looking for a hotel that was midpoint between the U of A and IKEA, as the reason for my trip was to move my daughter into residency. I booked my reservation through booking.com with a rate of $98/night. There was a technical error with my booking as I booked two queens but when I was prompted to check in online, it stated I was booked for a king. Without a long drawn out explanation, I was changed back to a basic two queen bed room. I used the online check out and dropped my keys in the express checkout box. When I got home,I checked my visa statement and was shocked that I was charged an “upgrade fee” of $80/night. I immediately regretted dropping my keys in the express box, as I was not given anything to sign off on all the charges of the bill. Only after I dropped my keys into the box and checked out, did I receive the bill with the additional charges mentioned. They are trying to be innovative with some new hotel technology such as scanning a QR code so that you can call the front desk from your cell phone versus using the phone in the room. I was immediately intrigued and tried out the service as I needed some cutlery delivered to my room. I called the front desk on my cel phone, and with a very bad reception and a woman that spoke broken English, I had no clue if my cutlery request was actually being handled or not. I hung up the phone and immediately got a text from the hotel that thanked me for my call and if there was any further assistance I can call that number anytime or respond to that number via text. I decided to text a request for cutlery so I could eat my supper. 2 hours later I went down to the front desk and got some thin crappy plastic cutlery to eat my leftover dinner. The next day (about 18 hours after my request) I heard a knock at my door..and to my surprise a maintenance man brought me the cutlery! LMAO. If someone requests cutlery, they likely need it within the 15-30 mins of requesting it…not 18 hours later. They have tried to be innovative with updated technology to make it easier for the guests. They have some serious tweaking to do, because it didn’t work on multiple levels. I also cannot understand why the phone call sounded like I was trying to talk to someone in a third world country with next to no reception..it’s Edmonton! My daughter and I both had very poor wifi, again, we are in a metropolitan city…why?! I paid 98.69/night (+tourism levy and DMF??)..not sure what DMF stands for but it’s a charge of $3.95/night), for a Monday to Wednesday stay.
Bottom line, this is a very old hotel that Wyndham is trying to rejuvenate and make look upscale. The beds are comfy and choice of overstuffed pillows and softer feather filled pillows. Bedding was lovely and comfortable, shower pressure was great, cleaning staff were friendly and sweet. I...
Read moreI recently had the pleasure of staying at a Wyndham hotel, and overall, my experience was very positive. From the moment I arrived, the check-in process was seamless. The staff at the front desk were both friendly and efficient, quickly getting me settled in without any delays or complications. Their warm and welcoming demeanor set the tone for the rest of my stay.
The room itself was comfortable and clean, with a modern design that made it feel fresh and inviting. The bed was exceptionally comfortable, allowing me to get a good night's sleep after a long day. I was pleased to find that the room was equipped with all the essential amenities I needed for a pleasant stay, including a flat-screen TV, a spacious work desk, and ample storage space for my belongings. The bathroom was also well-maintained, with clean towels and standard toiletries provided. The attention to detail in ensuring everything was in good condition was noticeable and appreciated.
Although I didn’t get a chance to use all of the hotel’s facilities, I was impressed by the variety of services offered. The hotel had a fitness center and an inviting pool area, both of which looked well-maintained and ready for guests to enjoy. It was nice to know that these options were available, especially for travelers who like to stay active during their trips. Additionally, the Wi-Fi worked reliably throughout my stay, which was a huge plus, as I was able to stay connected without any issues.
The hotel’s location was another highlight. It was conveniently situated with easy access to nearby businesses, shops, and restaurants, making it a great base for both work and leisure. Whether I needed to grab a quick bite or head out for a meeting, everything I needed was within a short distance, which saved me time and effort.
I also took advantage of the hotel’s breakfast service, which offered a decent buffet with a variety of options to suit different tastes. While the food was simple, it was fresh and satisfying. The breakfast service was well-organized, and the staff were attentive, making sure the buffet was replenished regularly. I found it to be a good start to my day.
In conclusion, my stay at the Wyndham hotel exceeded my expectations. It provided a comfortable, clean, and hassle-free environment that allowed me to relax and focus on my plans. While the hotel may not have offered luxury amenities, it definitely delivered on its promise of reliable, no-frills accommodation. I would highly recommend this hotel to anyone in need of a convenient, affordable option with excellent service and a solid range...
