Da Lelia, Italian Restaurant, Edmundston, LESS THAN 5 STARS is the adequate rating for this restaurant. I’d love to rate the food but since the owner literally KICKED US OUT, I can only comment on the lack of common decency, respect and customer service from the owners of this place. During my annual summer visit, my family chose De Lelia as our destination for our annual family dinner. A beautiful family of 7 adults and a child, all well dressed, polite and quiet. Our Crime? We didn’t order fast enough. The owner wanted us to order drinks, appetizers and main dish the minute we arrived. Our reservation was at 7:30 on a Saturday night, we had plenty of time and wanted to enjoy a relaxing dinner. After ordering salads, the owner came back, grabbed our menus and told us the kitchen was closed. Then the story was that their oven wasn’t working anymore. Funny, I don’t ever recall needing an oven to prepare salads. The owner is arrogant, impolite and obviously knows absolutely nothing about running a business and doesn’t understand that as an entrepreneur, no matter the industry, the first rule if you want to be successful is to take care of your clients. Luckily for us other restaurants in the city have understood that message and I’d like to thank Que Padre who welcomed us with open arms where we had excellent food & service, even without a reservation. People of the Edmundston region, we have a beautiful city with many wonderful entrepreneurs who work hard and understand the importance of good customer service. Please, support those great people. We have many excellent restaurants. It’s not necessary to support an owner who has absolutely no appreciation or respect for his clients. Nobody deserves the treatment we received. P.S. by the way, I phoned the next day to make a reservation. There were no issues with the oven. I guess the appliance repair guys offer an excellent service on Saturday...
Read moreMy wife and I were on a road trip through eastern Canada. The manager at our Edmonston hotel gave us a list of restaurants and we picked Da Lelia nearly at random as we had no knowledge of any of the restaurants on the list. We were very impressed! First, the playlist was quintessentially Italian with songs like "Tu Vuo Fà L'Americano" and many other classics. We then observed the server set the table next to ours. She was meticulous in her setting of the placemats and the cutlery and to our great astonishment wore a white cotton glove on her right hand to polish each piece of cutlery before carefully placing it down on the table, a front-of-house technique we have only seen in Michelin star establishments! The final remarkable touch came when the server adjusted each chair at a slight angle to the table achieving a wonderful "you are welcome to be seated" effect. We had had a very long travel day so what we wanted was a quick meal. We ordered a bottle of Fontanafredda Langhe 2021 and 2 pizza quattro stagioni. The pizzas were among the best we have had in years...anywhere in the world! The crust was light and crisp and the toppings were fresh and well balanced. We finished off our meal with a tiramisu that was perfect. Bottom line: Best pizza we've had in years and service staff who really care. Grazie,...
Read moreVery disappointing dishes. Ordered the panzanella salad and spaghetti bolognaise for take out. The meals were ready quickly but the portions were very modest for the price. The pasta serving was half the size expected. It was cooked al denté however the sauce was bland and there was not nearly enough for the amount of pasta.
The salad wasn’t even close to as described in the menu consisting of only 2 small slices of un-toasted baguette with mostly romaine lettuce and a few bits of under-ripe tomato with a bit of chopped grocery store processed ham slices. Panazella is a bread/tomato salad with well toasted crusty Italian bread sautéed in olive oil, garlic and herbs. The sautéed bread is mixed with ripe Italian tomatoes, often with some cucumber for crunch and torn fresh basil and onion to taste with a red wine vinegarette. When done properly it is wonderful however this version was unrecognisable. The salad was politely returned but even when resto staff démonstrated that the salad did NOT match the ingredients listed in the menu to the owner, he bullied the customer. Payment was refunded but the owner was insulting and dismissive rather than apologetic.
I have never written a review like this before but both the dishes and the attitude of this owner were...
