Fantastic room. Absolutely fantastic. We got the two queen bed room with the kitchenette, and for our family of four it was substantially larger than the two queen rooms we normally get at Choice Privileges properties. Very comfortable, very spacious.
Room was very clean overall, all appointments and appliances and things were nice touches and worked fine. Bathroom was also very clean, and while I've yet to find a hotel room with good shower water pressure, this one wasn't terrible.
The first day, the fellow behind the counter was extremely helpful, kind, polite, supportive, and we really felt like we were in good hands. We had some special requests, and he was accommodating and pleasant.
I cannot however say the same for many of the people that took over for him the following two days that we stayed there. Questions went unanswered, requests went unaddressed, and eventually we got the feeling that we were just kind of bothering people, which isn't the way that the guest should be made to feel. They weren't rude, they just seemed constantly distracted, overworked, and aloof, and that made it a bit harder for us to get things we needed.
On the plus side, the fitness center, small but decent, is available 24 hours. Guest laundry is also, though they only have one washing machine and one dryer, $4 to wash, $4 to dry. Hot breakfast is good with a fairly decent variety, but the eggs and so-called omelets were not super great, they felt overcooked, dry, and when I peeked behind the curtain into their kitchen storage room, I could see why, after cooking a tray, they just left it out at room temperature until it was needed in the next room. Gross, and probably not sanitary. See picture.
Kind of a shame, because our first day and a half there, we were really blown away by how impressive the whole place was. I guess it just goes to show that the people are at least if not more important than the place itself.
If all of the employees were like that first guy we had (didn't get his name, but short middle-aged fellow with a beard), it would be a no-brainer for five stars. But for $175 (CAD) a night, I expect a certain level of consistency in service quality, and a certain responsiveness to guests' needs...
Read moreBooked 3 nights here so that my wife didn't have to travel home each night during busy time at work. Plan was for me to work from room during day on my laptop. When checking in, I was told we would have to change rooms mid stay ... not impressed, no mention of that when making reservation. Room we were given was previously occupied by (as per desk guy) a couple, the husband had cancer, for almost five years ... love how they shared that personal information ... and was missing furniture, ironing board, lamp, clock, chair; they had no problem renting me this substandard room though. No light at one end of room so couldn't work in dark so ended up driving home to work during day. When I asked to be transferred to another room i was told they were booked up and when i showed them how the Choice Hotels website showed rooms available (I could have actually booked 9 rooms) i was told that the Choice site was wrong and they wouldn't honour the booking if people showed up. Choice Hotels would do nothing for me until I had "completed my stay"... as in give us your money before we tell you to pound salt ... and nothing concrete resulted from my complaints. The hotel will try to blame things on renovations but this clearly had nothing to do with that because the area being renovated is closed off from the rest of the hotel. All in all, I would not stay here and would not recommend this hotel (or any CHOICE affiliated hotel from this point forward based on my experience with CHOICE hotels with regards to this) and would suggest that one of the numerous other hotels in the immediate area would be the best alternative. If you are however looking for a good place to board your dog , here would be the perfect CHOICE ... if you...

This is a renovated property. It looks pretty good and in terms of functionality, there's no issue. The AC was new and worked well, the fridge, microwave, beds and furniture were updated and great. But just know that it is an older property, so don't expect perfection. For example, the toilet worked perfectly but made a brief funny noise each time after being flushed. Some of the caulking was coming off in the shower and around the sink (under the new counter), some of the walls needed a fresh coat of paint, etc. Nothing that would really affect your stay but if you go thinking it's a nice, new fancy hotel, you might be a little disappointed. Keep in mind there is no elevator, so if anyone in your group can't climb stairs, call the hotel sooner rather than later and request a room on the main floor.
Fresh, hot tea and coffee 24 hours a day in the lobby. Breakfast is basic - nothing to complain or rave about - but is still being served by staff (I felt so bad for them!). The property is kept clean. For example, trash cans are emptied and there is regular cleaning. There is plenty of parking and the area seems pretty safe.
The location is great, right off the highway. Next door, there is a Tim Hortons and Wendys, which is great to get cold drinks on a hot summer day and a bite to eat. Lots of stores and restaurants not too far away. About 25 minute drive to downtown Toronto with light traffic.
Overall, unbeatable value and awesome...
