This is a difficult review to write because we’re acutely aware that the B&B is the owners business & livelihood - and we don’t want to jeopardise that. However, we have personally relied on review websites when booking accommodations therefore feel obliged to give our honest account for other travellers. |So here goes….|The house is located in a lovely street very close to the harbour and town.|On entering the house our first impressions were slightly concerning as it’s nothing like the bright, airy & clutter free rooms the photos depict on the websites. |And on arrival, Michelle the owner was pleasant and helpful in nature.|She took our tea / coffee / juice order for breakfast for our stay and she also asked if we had dietary restrictions - but there was no menu.|She also helped us out greatly when we locked ourselves out of our car by giving us the use of her phone to call the recovery service and liaised on our behalf with the company - we bought her a bottle of wine as a thank you but had to leave it with her husband as she wasn’t available after our breakfast and checkout.|Regrettably we feel we still have to deduct 2 stars though :|One for the breakfast - it was poor quality and there was no choice, you have to have what Michelle gives you. Ten of us sat around a large table. Our first days breakfast consisted of a small smoothie shot, carton juice, few pieces of fruit, soaked oats & 3 half slices of soft ‘french toast’ with maple syrup and a pencil thin fatty sausage. Our second days breakfast was as above except we were given a dense egg soufflé with a small side of tomato relish instead of the ‘french toast’. And half of a croissant - never ever have we seen this before, we understand the importance of not having food waste but we weren’t offered any more or given any accompanying jams etc, it just felt economical & presumptuous that everyone likes egg soufflé as much as Michelle does?|We realise its Michele’s B&B and she can serve what she likes but she charges a lot of money so has to accept that her guests around the table were not complimentary about the taste & lack of choice, one couple said they weren’t bothering to have breakfast the next day and preferred to get something on the road! |We felt as a minimum just simple toast / croissant & egg, or fruit, yogurt & breakfast cereal should be on offer & it would be healthier.|Michelle said the soaked oats given to us on both days was homemade but we still felt she should ask if it’s wanted or to our taste?|Some people left it but they were too polite at the time to say anything or write reviews.|In short our opinion is that breakfast should be more about the food & service and not the crockery sets and table settings. |There were a few packaged biscuits and tea/coffee left on the first floor for people to help themselves but we didn’t.|We have deducted another star for our room, yes the room was large, it had a balcony and loungers but we were in the area to explore and not relax in the room and unfortunately there was just too much dust, decorative bed pillows and the sheets & pillow cases just didn’t smell fresh - a personal inspection of the rooms is a must prior to guests staying. |This is constructive feedback and we hope Michelle takes it on board in the helpful manner it is meant. |We would have been happy to share this with her but unfortunately she wasn’t there on...
Read moreThis is our third time hosted by these lovely "innkeepers" and shall not be our last. At your arrival you will be greeted by a couple who have such a knowledge and flare for arranging treasured artworks and antiques that make up this fine Victorian family home. It inspires many a romantic heart, so go ahead and ask your questions. As we say, you won't be surprised at the wealth of knowledge and the eagerness to share.
As you ascend that gorgeous staircase, music caresses your senses, the tasteful sounds of classic instrumentals escort you up the staircase from the main floor. It is the first thing that bids you a pleasant good night as you close the door of your elegantly furnished-delicately decorated Victorian style living space, to when you first wake up and toddle out with your book to the quiet comfort of the little sitting area off to the side, top of the stairs.
When you first take in the aroma of Michelle's carefully chosen and crafted breakfast fare of croissant, soufflé and espresso (there's so much more on the menu) which wafts up the stairs.
As you consider making the shift from your bathrobe clad self enjoying that sweet little coffee nook upstairs, yes, by all means take that last wake-you-up sip, but leave your mug on the tray before you make your descent into another heavenly aspect of your morning. We will tell you why.
You've had your bath perhaps in the old fashioned tub imported from Spain off the Bulloch Room Suite, one of the four tranquil room retreats to choose from, complete with Michelle's personal touch, thick and cozy Glucksteinhome cotton towels and bathrobes.
Then it is time to check out, after you've explored that quaint little town of Gananoque. You have fully taken in the setting, were transported back to a time where mealtime was an event and a luxurious bath made you feel like you've just been on the best vacation of your life.
It time to go back to your regular routine, but you bring a little piece of Bulloch House with you until the next time when you know, Michelle and Robert will be there to welcome you back as if you're...
Read moreThis is my second visit to The Bulloch House in Gananoque. It had been 4 years and I wanted to bring my mom and aunt, who was visiting from London, England to experience this beautiful Victorian House and especially the Scottish High Tea that Michele serves. From the moment you arrive at the house you are treated like royalty. Michele takes into account all your preferences, any allergies and medical conditions. We stayed for two days and enjoyed an amazing, curated breakfast each day and met some lovely other guests both days. Sadly, the weather was not so ideal and we were not able to explore Gananoque fully. What we did see was as lovely as I remember. We did take the 3 hour boat tour of the Thousand Islands, even with the pouring rain it was a nice tour. The highlight of our stay was the beautiful High Tea that Michele puts together. I highly recommend it. There will be no need to have dinner. She provides so many choices and everything is so delicious. We could not finish it all. The room we had was so comfortable and the beds were lovely. The property is gorgeous with the hydrangeas in full bloom while we were there. I highly recommend a stop in at The Bulloch House. You will be happy that you did. Looking forward to going back soon. Thank you Michele and your lovely family for a...
