Stopped in at Pistachio Cafe while exploring Gananoque and it was easily one of the highlights of our visit. We ordered espressos, lattes, and a selection of their baked goods, and everything was excellent. The espresso was smooth, well-balanced, and perfectly pulled, and the lattes had beautiful microfoam and rich espresso flavour, not bitter or burnt like many places.
The baked goods were fresh and delicious—we tried a pistachio muffin and a pastry, both of which were light, flavourful, and clearly made in-house with quality ingredients. It’s the kind of place where the coffee and food match the vibe: warm, welcoming, and genuine.
The staff were friendly and engaging, taking time to chat about the area while keeping service quick and efficient. You can tell they care about what they’re serving and about their customers.
The atmosphere is cozy yet bright, with comfortable seating and a clean, modern decor that makes it perfect for enjoying your coffee slowly or grabbing something on the go before exploring town. There’s also a lovely local feel to the cafe, with a mix of locals and visitors creating a warm buzz inside.
If you’re in Gananoque, skip the chains and make Pistachio Cafe your coffee stop. It’s the perfect spot for a quality coffee, a delicious snack, and a moment to slow down in your day. We’ll definitely return the next time we’re...
Read moreI normally don’t bother writing negative reviews, but my experience here was worth the warning to others. I stopped at the Pistachio Cafe to eat dinner and gelato with my family. The patio is nice and they seemed to have a short menu, which is typically a good sign. What I found was loosely put together food that was uninspired at best, and terrible at worst: two in my party ordered a watermelon salad and couldn’t even eat it; the server didn’t even bother to ask if there was something wrong, just if we wanted to take it home (God, no). The portions were tiny and ridiculously overpriced; a tapa-sized parm eggplant was $19.95, the gnocchi were not warm and they weren’t freshly made… an olive tapenade was $10 for a tiny bit of awful spread with 4 slices of bread. To add insult to injury, I asked for a serving of plain pasta for my 5 year old, and it got charged as a “custom item” for $12.95!!! I don’t doubt gelato is fantastic there based on other reviews, but by the end of the meal I just wanted to leave. One of the most mediocre meals I’ve ever had and it cost $180. I will never be...
Read moreJust visited today. I asked if I could get a decaf coffee, but was told they couldn’t do decaf coffee, but could do the espresso drinks as a decaf. Awesome. I proceed to order a macchiato with a toasted marshmallow flavour shot. It came to $6, and then tipped $1, totalling $7.
I receive my drink from the male barista who says chuckling “here’s your extra large latte”, and hand me a dixie cup sized drink. I thought he was kidding, but then he said “have a nice day”.
$7 for a decaf Dixie cup (no exaggeration) sized drink that tastes like bitter burnt water. It unfortunately didn’t even taste like toasted marshmallow. I’m so upset, because I don’t treat myself often and $7 is a lot for a drink. But, I wanted to support local and not find a chain restaurant. So beyond disappointing and will certainly...
