This comment addresses first and foremost proper communication and behavior towards paying guests. There was nothing wrong with the room except a pillow case that should have been thrown out as the old blood stain on it clearly did not came out when laundered last (see picture). I first mentioned my birthday when booking my stay with the hotel in order to get the suite I preferred most. That worked out fine as we did get the requested suite at full price which I had totally expected and was absolutely fine with. The second time I mentioned my birthday was at check-in which was the day prior to my birthday. The third time I mentioned it was my actual birthday when I came down the stairs towards the front desk and commented on the good music: "Thank you, did you put that on for me cause it's my birthday?" All that got me was a half smile but nothing else. The forth time I mentioned my birthday to staff at the front desk was in the afternoon that same day when I took the time to walk around and take pictures of the art on display throughout the hotel. I mentioned it then too as there was another guest whose birthday fell on the same day (friends of their's had stuck a birthday message to their door with obvious big letters reading happy birthday). The response of the gentleman at the front desk? Nothing. Nothing? They are clearly able to respond by shoving cards of appreciation underneath the room door (see picture). They even shove a piece of paper containing the bill underneath the room door (see picture). But they are incapable of writing, let alone typing, Happy Birthday, on a sheet of paper and shove that underneath the door? Really? And when confronted with said fact are unable to utter even a fake "Happy Birthday". Really? Dear Management: us guests DO NOT expect free stuff from you on our birthday when we mention it. But we certainly expect some form of acknowledgement and if it is only a verbal one. This complete ignorance is a sign of utter disrespect towards your paying guests. Your establishment is not the first one I spent my birthday at in the past. But it is the only one that chose to completely ignore it in the most disrespectful way possible! The truth is I had actually looked up the restaurant linked to your hotel in order to possibly invite my family in town there for my birthday dinner. Well, needless to add that after this experience I canceled those plans and took them elsewhere instead. If you are really worried about guests celebrating their birthday while staying with you demanding free stuff then why don't you come up with a "10% off at the Cork restaurant" voucher instead? That way you advertise the restaurant and show some form of respect and acknowledgement at the same time. I was appalled that your staff wasn't even able to say: Happy Birthday. But you are sure able to plant a tree for me as stated on the pink note you shoved underneath our door. Thank you very much- I will certainly not hold my breath...
Read moreMy new husband and I just had our wedding here this past Saturday (August 12th) in the Derby Room and oh my gosh…. we had the best weekend of our lives. We first had our rehearsal with our family and bridal party on Friday, we were able to get into the room an hour earlier than anticipated. Brittany, Cashmere and Hannah helped coordinate the entire rehearsal for us and accommodated our needs all night. We then went to dinner at the chilled cork afterwards and there was a small complimentary charcuterie plate set up on the table for our guests to share. The service is always excellent at the chilled cork.
We stayed the night in separate suites. There had been a mix up with the grooms suite but Tina right away fixed it for us and upgraded us to a room with a balcony and a full kitchen at no extra cost. I had the presidential suite and when I checked in there was complimentary wine bottles, a nice note from staff and the room was cleaned top to bottom. Tina and the rest of the hotel staff were so accommodating to all of our needs throughout the entire year of planning our wedding here and we loved working with her!! We are so grateful for her hard work at keeping us happy.
The morning of the wedding, Brittany brought up all of our food right on schedule and went through the timeline with me again to ensure our day would be perfect. We had ordered the wraps and sandwiches from menu to be brought up to us and everyone loved them!
The ceremony went very smoothly, we had our room flipped into the reception and the doors opened right on time. Everyone raved about the food that the chilled cork catered. We had the spinach dip flatbread, forty creek meatballs and tequila chicken wontons for our canapés. Dinner was served perfectly and our late night snack was a hit for everyone! We had the deep fried chicken bites and the pork and beef sliders. Brittany was the most helpful to us throughout the entire process and went above and beyond to ensure our wedding was perfect and the way we wanted it.
We ended up staying in the log cabin on our last night and it was so cozy and nostalgic…. It even smells like fresh wood! I can’t thank Brittany, Cashmere, Hannah, Tina and the rest of the staff enough for all of their hard work and dedication through the last year of planning. I would HIGHLY recommend Retro Suites to anyone looking to host any event, to go for a weekend get away or just to have a bite to eat at the chilled cork! THANK YOU...
Read moreIt was that special time for my wife and I, and like everyone else, we were looking for a place that would enable us to have a memorable wedding experience. In the search to find something different we discovered “Retro Suites”. We were excited to find out it was a mere 45 mins away in Chatham, ON, so we thought we would take a look. After meeting with the most friendliest staff while getting a tour, not only were we literally knocked out by how kind the staff was, but this place is an ABSOLUTE INCREDIBLE GEM of old world meets new world rolled into a complete package that just speaks complete class everywhere you look! Every single room is not only different from the next, but top to bottom each room and hallway is filled with something of awe! After being blown away we booked Retro Suites for our special wedding event and we were taken in like old friends as we were helped every step of the way. The staff answered every question we had and we felt SO reassured and SO at ease that they truly made planning a wedding (normally something so overwhelming), into something that was enjoyable, easy and with a step by step plan left us feeling confident for our big day! Always taking time to reply via email or even a quick phone call to answer any question or worry we had. I know that this is a review and you might think anyone can write a positive review like this…BUT I hope you can believe us when we say that there is something magical about this place and you just feel like you’re miles and miles away from home on a holiday.
Even to this day we STILL try and find time in our busy lives to stay for a long weekend or even just stay a night or two every time our anniversary comes around. The staff is OUTSTANDING and they honestly truly care about your experience there. They WILL become your friends, we sincerely mean this. Oh and did we mention the food is DELICIOUS? 5 out of 5! The care that you get here is set VERY, VERY high to make sure you have the best stay or to make your event run flawlessly.
We cannot recommend this place enough be it an event, a nights stay, dinner and or drinks. You...
