This review is based off a stay from 04/30/2023 to 05/06/2023.
I booked this stay relatively last-minute as I had some unexpected free-time in my schedule to travel to visit family. I cannot speak to the pricing of the hotel, as I managed to snag our entire 6-night stay on points accumulated through their Bonvoy rewards program (which I highly recommend if you stay at a Marriott/other participating property).
Overall our stay was a good one. The room was a good size for two people, as was the bathroom. The bed was comfy, and the wifi was consistent and met our needs (my husband even managed to play Fortnite on the hotel wifi with no issues). We heard very little noise from neighbouring rooms. I used the public hot tub once, and it was delightfully hot (I find public pool facilities often keep their hot tubs very tepid to appease more guests, so this was a happy surprise). We didn't have the need to interact with the staff very much, but all interactions we did have were pleasant and friendly. We were delighted to find that the room had a mini fridge AND a microwave, which allowed us to heat up our leftovers. The room has a safe, but we didn't discover it until day 4 (it was in the bedside table, which I've never seen at any other hotel I've stayed in).
In terms of location, this suited our needs. It was close to the family we were visiting in Fort Saskatchewan, while still being within a 20-minute drive to downtown Edmonton with very quick and easy highway access. That being said, I come from a city that is very walkable, and there is nothing within comfortable walking distance without having to cross busy roads. Plan to drive everywhere.
If booking, keep in mind that this is a solidly 3-star, no-bells-and-whistles kind of property. Our biggest complaint was the lack of outlets/USB plugs on either side of the bed. Phones had to be plugged in across the room and out of reach. I feel like in this day and age somewhere to plug in items right next to the bed is an absolute must.
Overall:
Pros: Was able to get 6 nights on points even though I booked last minute Friendly staff Cozy, firm bed Clean and quiet Mini fridge, microwave, safe, iron, ironing board, and hair dryer all immediately available in suite Free parking available. Never had an issue finding a space.
Cons: Lobby has an unpleasant smell. Unsure if it was the pool or an air freshener. Either way, it deterred us from spending too much time in the public areas of the lobby Nowhere to plug phone/other devices next to bed. Phones had to be charged across the room Pillows...
Read moreMy husband and I booked a block of rooms here for us and our wedding guests. What a mistake. Although the hotel is clean and pretty, it is SO unorganized. The lack of communication here is unbelievable. After calling MULTIPLE times to confirm our rooms were secured for everyone, they failed to provide us with the suit we were personally shown and promised. They eventually found a way to get us the expected room (which wouldn't have been such a massive deal if I wasn't planning on have all my bridesmaids get ready in there). The next day, on the day of our wedding, someone from the hotel called us moments after the ceremony to ask if we needed the suite for the wedding night as well -_- ….. it had only been mentioned 10 times. We also called multiple times to reserve the restaurant for a large group, it took 8 phone calls to even speak to someone at the restaurant (one time they must have transferred us to a guests room because a little boy answered wondering who we were). Upon getting to the restaurant a few days after FINALLY confirming we had a reservation, the waitress rudely informed us she had no clue of a reservation and we must have talked to the wrong people. Thankfully the chef did his best to help the waitress and they managed to get us served. I'm also thankful to Sarah Curran (a member of the sales team) who was kind enough to let me vent to her my negative experience and apologize for everything. She did what she could to make things right and was the only kind and professional person we spoke to - thank you Sarah. 2 stars because I know mistakes happen, but honestly I could say at least 5 more negative examples of why not to stay here, but I'll...
Read moreThis place was interesting. Lots of strange rules written on a piece of paper which were amusing. I got a kick out of them, wished there was a menu for the restaurant downstairs available instead though. The funniest rule signage in the elevator was the justification for returning room keys or you'd be charged. It's clear the hotel wants to cut mini costs by making guests return keys so they can reuse the keys indefinitely. There are posters everywhere. It's funny, like whomever wrote them doesn't realise that is a non impactful cost savings and the charge threat to guests won't inspire repeat business.
Service was good, rooms clean, and the underground parking was a nice feature.
I wouldn't stay again because of the room key charge and the silly rules, but it's a decent place. The same brand hotel in Leduc, Edmonton and Calgary doesn't have the same over the top rules. The rules are definitely off brand and not associated with the chain, just this location.
Also, when I went to my room my lights by the bed and the TV was on which creeped me out. It smelled like a man wearing heavy cologne was recently in there. I immediately checked for cameras and recording devices. Had an uneasy vibe there. Although, now that i think about it hidden surveillance could explain the strange rules, since you'd have to be watching people in their rooms to be albe to determine all of those weird...
