We had been to their other brand Sutton and this was our first time ever at a Sandman, as we have been a different member from a different chain, I called the same day to booked in and I guess I have spoke to a lady from their Main line for Sandman and was quoted a different price a little misunderstanding I guess, as we’re only checking in for a staycation and was browsing around my husband was already a diamond member from a different chain hotel but, I convinced him to try this hotel for the first time, I’ve called a few minutes after and was directed to their main reception at the hotel spoke to Dustin who was very accommodating, he made everything possible. He’s welcoming attitude and smile For that experience maybe we will try them again, 4 star for the room as it could have a been a little more cleaner. 5 star for the hotel looks brand new I guess they were established just 2019 and the lobby was quite nice there are a little book area whivh I find very cute, last but not the least 2.5 star for the banquet manager Lisa we were wanting some more information about their banquet room the first time we met her at the lobby asked us right away what date we needed it for which is understandable I told her we have one coming on May 6 and she right away said I have to check my calendar first and I was like could we check the hall first as it is not needed only for May we also need it for July, and some other events I felt I have to ask her questions first before she can give me details. I didn’t felt welcomed by her. I felt I got the judge look from her I guess if your not type of person wearing a suit or not Caucasian I’m not sure all I know she wasn’t very helpful at all I didn’t get the info. I actually needed, I swear on how her tone was and how she stare at me she made me feel we can’t afford renting their facility she was like the room is already 1200 plus for just a day you can’t bring your own food as they’re catered from their chop resto. Which is understandable mostly hotels are like that anyways, and trust me I don’t just leave reviews like that, but that conversation made me feel so uncomfortable she made it feel so awkward with that experience I will not consider renting their facility because of that experience from her I could have said more here but, that’s ok. That from her kind of ruined our experience. Thanks Lisa I guess you’ve lost a possible client for different events and also, remember recommendations are so important. I have spoke to different manager from other chain of hotel and never felt shrugged like this. those people are so professional and because of that it helped us to decide. Experience and how you treat people are important with that industry. Anyways Dustin keep it up because of your character people will most likely come back to your hotel and for us who loves to travel and has been checking in to different hotels we know that experience...
Read moreFirst, great upfront. The actual room itself is nice. The King Suite has a separate air conditioner in both the bedroom and living room. The kitchen and table is nicely laid out. It feels modern and our room was clean. The hotel lobby was nicely laid out, easy access to food as it’s attached to the Chop Grill. Parking was plentiful. It’s very easy to access off the Henday, has a nice shopping area to the east if you need it. The bed has a decent selection of pillows, and the sheets are good. There are also nice big windows in the room that looks out onto a parking lot and green belt. Shower has solid pressure.
Second, the OK:
Our particular room was next to the elevator. The noise from the elevator isn’t terrible, but you can hear it humming in the bedroom. It’s not loud, but probably enough to wake up light sleepers.
The window in the bathroom is an odd choice. On one hand, it’s a nice decorative touch. On the other hand, every time I went to use the facilities in the dark, I woke up my spouse because the light shone through.
There was also a bunch of minor missed housekeeping. The shower door stayed open an inch, one of the drawers in the living room entertainment cabinet wouldn’t stay closed, and our curtains had these weird orange stains on them, for example.
Finally, the bad:
The pet policy in the hotel is frustrating. The $30/night fee is fair, but upon checking in, we were told that the room we booked wasn’t pet friendly and we could only stay the night. The hotel advertises itself as pet friendly and it’s featured prominently on the website. The issue seems to be that only some rooms are pet friendly, which is fine, but the hotel website doesn’t tell you which rooms are pet friendly and doesn’t let you filter for pet friendly rooms or warn you against non-pet friendly rooms when you book them.
We were only told about it when we arrived, which was frustrating because the staff had called me a week prior about a different booking for the same room and didn’t mention anything, even going as far as to confirm it was a pet room. I probably won’t rebook here until it’s clear which rooms are, and aren’t, pet friendly.
In general, the Sandman’s website is hard to use. That’s not the fault of this particular hotel but the chain in general.
The booking system for the hotel difficult to use if you use a Google account. You can’t sign in to see existing bookings, and the wifi also doesn’t work because it needs your email to authenticate. The room that we were in was on the south end, and there was a struggle to get good cell reception so even hot spotting was...
Read moreBecause my previous stays were better experiences I rated 3 stars instead of 1. Unfortunately my latest stay here did not meet my expectations.
To start, I checked in. Went to my room and realized they gave me the wrong room. Went back down and asked them about this as I had booked the standard suite, 1 king bed, sofa bed, kitchenette. She said she upgraded me because the room I booked a month prior over the phone was not available. Most people would be happy for an upgrade. Me, not so much. I was excited to have a different room. The room they upgraded me to I had stayed in last time. And to not even tell me when I checked in? Why did the phone operator let me book a room that wasn’t even available? Or does this hotel just push customers reservations around to suite specific people?
I had yet to stay here in the winter so this was new to me. It was frustrating that the bedroom fan could not be kept on all night. You could not set it. The display was not working. So it kicks in and out all night long. Ontop of that. I am a very cold person due to a health issue. During the day I am freezing. So, having to constantly kick on the heat every hour is super annoying. Both thermostats I would turn up and they would kick in, they would warm up to that temp then just drop back down until you kicked it in again. Why can you not set these things once and have the room just heat itself when it needs to in order to maintain that temp, as it does the air conditioner in the summer time?
My biggest concern was logging into your wifi. Have you been hacked? I don’t believe you have your guests privacy in mind. I never had this issue before so this is new and you should look into this ASAP. When I logged into your wifi I got a notification that said a new iPhone is now is now using my apple ID and yada yada (will post pic). Then the next day, I tried logging into the wifi to do work on my laptop and it said not safe and that your security certificate expired about a year go and warned me not to use the sandman wifi (will post pic). So I did not get to use my laptop because of this breach that may be happening. What is going on? Please look into this and make sure your system is looking out for your customers. I really hope my information was not hacked by signing into your wifi. As I said, I never had this happen logging into your wifi on my devices before so please get your cyber security working properly to secure your customers information is not...
