Our train trip from Churchill to Thompson was cancelled last minute and everyone whose booked on the June 27th train trip to Thompson were given a choice to fly that day. Cutting the travel time significantly, we arrived a day earlier of our original reservation. We booked our stay through air miles (travel hub), I’ve called several times to explain the situation to air miles so they could modify our reservation but it was all pain. I’ll write more about travel hub in to a proper platform. We arrived in Thompson, with all the other passengers of that Churchill flight wanting a room to stay in Best western as well. There was an unusual traffic of people in the hotel, I could tell from the people lining up to get to the front desk. The front desk person, Val, as I observed while waiting for my turn seemed professional and composed in dealing with lots of us whose wanting a room to stay after a tiring day dealing with the trip cancellation. When it’s my turn, I explained my dilemma to him, it was a tiring day for everyone of us, we were travelling with small kids and most people travelling with small kids can relate to this kind of scenario. My goal was to get a room, regardless I’ll get charged another time, my booking with air miles is fully paid, airmiles says I can’t modify my booking and will not give my money back that made my heart sink. Val (frontdesk) might have sensed that something is not right how our case were handled by airmiles, looked carefully into what can be done he called his manager. Ethel, no idea that she is the general manager, humbly asked me about the situation. I could tell that she’s finished work and all set to go home, as it was almost 6pm at that time. She is a class act, she stayed and personally fixed my booking, she went above and beyond to ensure that we will have a room to stay for the night. Ethel and Val offered snacks and refreshments to our kids while waiting, until our room is ready for us. What seems to be a chaotic day, turned to be a good one because of these people. There’s not a lot of people like this, who are willing to go the extra mile I would like to think, which make this place highly recommendable to everyone looking for a place to stay in Thompson. Keep up the great work, we will surely come back to stay again!...
Read moreI fly to Thompson for work. This is the first time I've stayed at The Best Western which a non-smoking facility.
It is easy to find as it is on the same road as the airport. There is a parking lot and the building is accessible for all.
Checking in was easy and my room was easy to find. There are 2 elevators which is sufficient for the 4 floor building.
I was in the King Suite with balcony on the second floor. This was an accessible suite with lots of room to navigate and and is not equipped with a bath tub.
The kitchen is equipped with 2 elements, microwave, fridge, dishwasher, toaster and coffee maker. You are also provided with 1 large non stick pot, 1 stainless steel pot, nonstick frying pan and small sauce pan. Cooking utensils are provided along with a bottle opener and can opener. Plates, cutlery, mugs, cups, bowls, side plates and wine glasses are also found in the room. Dish soap, dishwasher tabs, sponge and scrub brush can also be found.
Living area is comfortable with 2 large chairs with cushioned table/footrest, no couch but plenty of seating options like a padded bench along one wall and a dining table with 4 chairs.
The balcony faced the courtyard of an apartment building and was quiet while I was there. There is a bistro set for 2 located on the balcony.
The bedroom had a pocket door and when closed, is a very quiet space to sleep. Drawers, closet and desk are in the bedroom. There are separate thermostats to control the bedroom and living area.
The breakfast options are good. You receive hot breakfast tickets that you present if you are interested. Otherwise, there is a pancake maker, bagel, toast (gluten free option available), fruit, yogurt dispenser, coffee (different options) and cereal.
In the evening, there are complimentary nachos (served with sour cream and salsa) and/or soup.
Other amenities include a sauna and gym. Both were clean and not busy when I attended.

Read moreReally enjoyed my stay! Lobby is very nice. Front desk staff helpful and friendly. Little work station with computer and desk. Sitting areas. Free breakfast. Across the street from City Center Mall and restaurants. Recommended to take a taxi in the evening. Taxis are quick and friendly. Room was spacious and comfortable. TV was a smart TV with all the options. I was having trouble connecting my laptop to wifi, called front desk. I tried again and it worked. Front desk called 5 minutes later to ask if I had connected. Nice eco friendly incidentals such as makeup remover, biodegradable washcloths for washing makeup off your face, microfibre cloth at coffee station for cleaning up spills.
