Tofino Swell Lodge — Hotel in Tofino

We love this place so much we sort of don't want to write a good review because it may get busier! ||||They just replaced all the carpets in the rooms in Dec 2018 but we had been coming for a year and half before then. Before the new carpets I agree the rooms can sometimes smell musty. It's hard to keep a room damp free when you are right by the ocean in a very rainy town. That's what you get for that gorgeous view. But since the new carpets, that one complaint is no more.||||We love this lodge because of many reasons. The location is great as it is right in Tofino and has a dock where we can launch our canoe. It is also pet friendly and doesn't charge extra for them (I love that because my dog is part of our family and is cleaner than most kids). They also have a fully stocked large common kitchen and a few BBQs to cook a gourmet meal if you wish.||||Wifi is good enough as long as you aren't streaming movies or something like that. In general, cell phone coverage is poor in the Tofino area unless you are with Telus. Remember, you are on the beautiful edge of Canada. You're not there for the excellent wifi.||||Walls between rooms can be thin but we haven't had much bother because it's rarely full and neighbors are generally considerate. Incredible, incredible location...views of the sound and to the distant snow covered peaks...amazingly close to town but peaceful and quiet...especially at night. 100% pet friendly..no charge for pets, no leash requirement. They do have cats and their own dogs so be respectful. The three downstairs rooms names after salmon have sliding doors onto a shared patio and o to the gardens and area for barbecues and fires and are great. Although basic, the owners pay great attention to room cleanliness and the hot tub is sparking, HOWEVER..there is some deferred maintenance and painting so if that matters to you keep that under consideration...this is not a place for you if you are into spas and fine dining! The communal kitchen and dining are have some of the best views anywhere. We were the only guests and will always stay there if we go back. Wonderful dining (specially Japanese!) in Tofino and the whale and sea otter watching was icing...

The Tofino Swell Lodge is such a beautiful and tranquil place, with warm and friendly owners, I wish we could have stayed longer. The room was nice, and very clean, (though a little small) but still comfortable. The best part of the room was the view of the ocean, mountains and small marina. Upstairs is a common lounge and kitchen with a wall of windows to take in that glorious view. We enjoyed meeting people from all over the world as we made our breakfast , lunch etc. Being a small lodge ( 7 rooms) it was wonderfully quiet and so much better than a large hotel with all the comings and goings. The hot tub was an added bonus. If I ever go to Tofino again that will be the place...
