I booked this hotel as part of a larger tour across Canada,
My and my family stayed in over 10 different IHG branded hotels over a period of approx 3 weeks whilst travelling from Vancouver to Toronto.
Out of all the different hotels this was the worst experience in my Canadian experience.
On the first night we discovered (at 10pm) when we first used the Toilet that it was in fact blocked. The blockage may have been as a result of the room and facilities being recently renovated, although still incomplete as tiles were missing from the bathroom, but more likely as a result of baby products (Wipes) being flushed by the previous guests. How do I know that baby products may have been flushed. This gem of knowledge came in the form of Used Nappies still remaining in the bins.
We managed through the night so as not to bother other guests.
I mentioned to reception during breakfast the issues with the toilet and the cleanliness of the room.
I received an apology and assured the issues would be resolved.
Upon the return to the room later on that night we discovered that the toilet was fixed however the room had not been made up and we still had 2 to 3 day old nappies in our room
I again mentioned this to reception at check out, who politely apologised, but no action or compensation.
That same morning, only 10 minutes later in the restaurant a family complained about the food they ordered not being as they expected, even after eating them and were refunded 2 meals
Further to this.
We required some change for the Laundry facilities.
these are good but require 1 dollar coins. We had plenty of 2 Dollar coins but no 1 Dollar. We enquired at reception and the bar if they could provide change. We we basically told no by the bar manager as they didn't have cash at all....
One of the bar staff was good to help but the managerial staff were quite rude - Thanks to that member of staff you were a life saver
Later we saw the bar manager counting up all the cash he had taken that day from drinks, food and the slots - but remember we asked and he didnt have any cash
The bar manager was further helpful when I wanted to order a beer and charge it back to my room. He quite sternly said no. I enquired as to why that night was different from the night before (in the same hotel, and nights in previous hotels), he just said I had to pay direct. Eventually after some debate on the matter he did charge back to my room.
I use IHG all over the UK and have travelled to Australia and Hong Kong using the brand and have never had such an experience.
This may be a one off but I will...
Read moreThe staff were beyond friendly and attempted to be as helpful as possible, as well it’s close to the mountains.. which are the only reasons this place is getting an extra star.
We stayed in the only room with a bathtub, it was filthy. The room itself was clearly not cleaned, the tub was covered in hair and dirt, one window was covered by the entrance sign maybe?? Which has a vent directly in front of the window, it smelled awful so couldn’t open that window. The second window didn’t have a screen.
There were crumbs literally everywhere, hair all over the floor of the bathroom. It seemed like the bed sheets were the only thing cleaned. I brought all of these issues to staff, asked the front desk employee to change rooms and they advised this was the only room with a tub and they would be happy to clean it. I was already apprehensive as I just wanted a clean room immediately but my husband and I agreed that would be fine.
The staff member who assisted me was so pleasant, very professional and even offered 1,000 points as an apology. I was perfectly happy with that and wouldn’t be writing this if it had been cleaned. :)
When we returned to the room, all the crumbs and hair were still there. It obviously had not been cleaned but at least the filth was out of the tub. I filled the bath, got in and realized it had NOT been cleaned, just rinsed out. There was a thick layer of filmy, gross whatever, all over the bath. At this point I was so fed up and bought my own cleaning supplies, cleaned the entire room myself and finally enjoyed a bath… for over $250 a night. Honestly, beyond angry and I wasn’t about to go talk to a staff member being that angry.
If this was someone’s only vacation this summer or year and they wasted that much money on this bs, I would be devastated for them and the owners should be as well. You charge people their extremely hard earned money and won’t even give them the basics of a clean room???
If it weren’t for being so close to the mountains, this wouldn’t even be a one star hotel. No care, no services, no restaurant available at the time, and this is no fault of the hotel but as a heads up to anyone with migraines or issues as such - the hotel has an over whelming mildew and rotting smell sometimes. It’s not all the time, maybe from the factory idk. But just a warning if you’re sensitive.
Overall, don’t waste your money here unless you like servicing your own room and receiving $7 of points for your work, time and money on...
Read moreAfter a long drive from Fort McMurray to Hinton, we arrived and were greeted by a friendly and helpful front desk agent. We were happy to learn that our room was selected and prepared in anticipation of our arrival. The room was easily accessible from the parking lot and there was ample parking. |As we entered the room, it was not what we expected......this room looked like it was decorated by an HGTV celebrity! As I walked in and looked to my right, the bathroom stood out as modern, with a backlite mirror, floating vanity with quartz countertop and an oversized shower with rolling glass doors. The custom dispenser's held name brand name shampoo, conditioner and body wash. The sink also had a custom dispenser with hand soap and lotion, very convenient for travelers. |On to the main room.....the decor was exceptionally curated...colours, textures and furniture all came together in a tasteful blend of comfort and functionality. The headboard and floating bedside tables, tv stand and luggage storage hutch were all finished in a consistent woodgrain and vertical slat design. The headboard was cushioned by a padded slate grey leather cover, all mounted over the grainy textured wall paper which was the most impressive dark green/bluish colour I have ever encountered, perhaps emerald best describes it ! The light fixtures all have a unique style that matches the specific areas designed for seating, office work and bedside reading.|The artwork has a playful them of geometric design, with 3 different pieces, we found ourselves comparing interpretations over a glass of wine. |Now to the expected..... there was a new Phillips 43" TV with a wide rage of media, the TV Stand and cabinet contain a microwave and fridge , and just down the hall is a pool and hot tub. If you are feeling adventurous the slide is sure to impress with a large superstructure containing the slide, with spiraled stairs taking you to the summit of the vaulted ceilings, lined with all of this great county's provincial flags.|Last but not least is the window covering experience that was dimensionally layered, starting with the blackout blinds, privacy shade and bookend curtains, each in slightly different textures and coulors that compliment each other perfectly, drawing the eye to the oversized window. |The best part of this experience was looking at my wife a minute after entering and without speaking, we both knew we made the best hotel choice...
