A perfect coffee and food stop in an unexpected location. I found The Old Grind by accident. I had already bought some breakfast-to-go elsewhere, and only intended to get a coffee here, but I ended up sitting in and buying a whole new breakfast as I couldn't resist the way-too-tempting offerings. Hinton in general is an uncohesive town, and this area is especially disjointed, so finding this cute and quaint coffee house come deli was a very lovely surprise. As soon as you walk through the door you pick up a good vibe and feel like staying a little longer. Both coffee and food were excellent, and the relaxed seating is a calming welcome for travellers. The WiFi was good quality, so there was an added bonus that I could plan my day's activities. A well deserved 5-stars. It has a mini boutique shop at the back of the cafe. Read moreFor a place that advertises items that are “high quality” and “fresh baked daily” we were pretty disappointed to see the person making our food walk out of the back with a bag of great value bagels.
There were no prices on the menu or on the website and we ended up paying $22 for 2 bagels and a muffin. We also waited over 25 minutes after paying for them to be made.
The egg on my morning bagel was really dry, as if it was frozen and then microwaved.
My husband got a bagel with cream cheese for $5.75. It was mediocre at best. Extremely stingy on the cream cheese. Would have rather gone to Tim Hortons.
The pumpkin muffin was the only thing that was good, but definitely not worth the wait.
We like to support local businesses when we travel, but we expected “fresh baked” items, not low quality factory bagels at a jacked up price.
Would not recommend this place...
Read moreMy wife and I were in Hinton on a camping trip and I wanted to try this place as I love local coffee shops. We walked in and were greeted by the two gentleman working that day. The barista was very helpful in making suggestions and I settled on a caramel macchiato and a date slice. I must mention that he was kind enough to tell me that a traditional macchiato was more of an espresso shot so that I wouldn't possibly be disappointed. We sat for awhile and enjoyed the coffee and the date slice that was made fresh was also delicious. I also noticed that they make breakfast and lunch items and cater to gluten free and other dietary needs.
So if you're in Hinton and want to try some good local coffee with good conversation and a very friendly atmosphere please try The Old Grind. Looking forward to our next...
