Do not drive into parking garage if your car is over 5’8”! It says 6’ but is labeled wrong and your car roof will be destroyed. Saw it happen TWICE while we were there. They need flashing lights on the height restriction bar and a sign to the left of the driver’s side saying “Low Elevation-Caution SUVs!”
The hotel itself is very nice and upscale, secure entry to elevators with key card - efficient computer system that limits elevator wait time! Bellhop/concierge staff were so friendly and helpful (Mauricio! - so sad you’re moving to Victoria😢), with superior service and recommendations. Rooms were clean and spacious - got a complimentary corner room upgrade. Beds were very comfortable and soft. Need additional head pillows as they were so soft and cushiony! Housekeeping was meticulous.
As mentioned by others: signage from parking to hotel is absent. First, a parking pay machine is before the elevator and says you must pre-pay. NOT true if Hyatt guest. Hyatt will just charge your vehicle automatically when you give the front desk your license plate. Should be a sign by the parking pay machines saying this. Also, once you get out of the parking elevator, NO signage whatsoever to hotel.
From Parking Garage to Hyatt entrance: take parking elevator and go to its top level. Out of elevator - Turn right, then left. Go to end of hall and Hyatt is on your right (entrance not visible from garage elevator - need a sign with a right arrow at the end of the hall!).
From main hotel street entrance, check-in location was confusing and not visible. It is to the LEFT (or RIGHT, if coming from parking garage / Royal Centre entrance), while concierge is straight ahead, and elevators are straight and then right - into the narrow hallway.
Lots of restaurants nearby - note: Victoria Chinese restaurant in adjacent Royal Centre mall is CLOSED ON MONDAYS. Kirin is a good chinese restaurant relatively close-by (but still 7 blocks walking distance).
Would stay here again, but would just use a taxi or Uber. Cheaper than self-parking, and don’t have to worry about height clearance entering garage (there is a higher-ceiling parking entrance on Melville Street, but the sign telling you this is in smaller font in the right corner where you can’t see it!). ASIDE: For non-Canadians - - Vancouver city streets are very narrow getting around, both downtown AND while traveling from the YVR airport, so pay attention. Also, sudden “right turn only” lanes.
Again, all staff were excellent (smiling and quick to respond to your questions or requests made over the phone from your room). They really made the...
Read moreThis hotel was in a great location with food and shopping all around. The staff was friendly. Concierge was always able to catch us a cab and we enjoyed the pool/hot tub and additional amenities the hotel offered.
However, we did have an incident on one of the nights we were there.
At around 1 in the morning, we heard a rattling outside our door and suddenly someone very loudly barged into our room. Thankfully, we had our top lock on and they could not enter the room.
We immediately called the front desk and we spoke to someone who sounded very concerned and connected us to the manager. The manager brushed it off as someone who perhaps got the wrong room and didn’t believe that someone was able to open the door. When I reiterated that someone indeed opened the door, they finally offered to do a security sweep of the floor.
We received a call back asking whether we had ordered cups and toiletries to our room, to which we did not. These items were sitting outside our door, apparently. The manager said that a hotel staff member had tried to put these items in our room and swiped their card on our room door to deliver them.
This did not make us feel any better. While it may have been a hotel staff member, the individual never knocked or announced themselves as hotel staff. They rattled the door and barged in.
We could not sleep that night, as we were terrified of who could have done this. We had a very early morning the next day, and we were exhausted and still frightened by what happened that night.
When we returned from our day excursion the next day, we spoke to a staff member at the front desk to confirm who had access to our room and we mentioned the incident. Upon hearing this, they mentioned staff should NOT have access to rooms at night. However, when they reviewed the incident report, they went back on this and said staff DO have access at night and are able to come into rooms to deliver items if they do not hear anyone is inside.
This is very confusing - do staff have access at night or not? And they did not even ensure someone was in the room in the first place before barging in.
We felt as though some of the staff did not really care and we were very nervous for the rest of our stay, feeling anxious at night and alert to every sound we heard outside.
Upon reading further reviews of this hotel, it seems this incident has happened before. While we were compensated via the Hyatt’s Loyalty program, just be aware that people might have access to your room...

The exceptional service at this Hyatt began before we even arrived, with a welcome email from General Manager Patrick Gosselin – a thoughtful gesture that, in my experience staying at Hyatts worldwide, often signals excellent attention to detail. Executive Assistant Yumi Adachi provided additional helpful correspondence prior to our stay.
Location and Arrival: The hotel's location is ideal, situated directly adjacent to the Burrard Station light rail stop – particularly convenient for our late 10 PM arrival. The property is centrally positioned, offering easy access to Vancouver's main attractions. The spacious lobby features an in-house Starbucks.
Check-in and Room: SYGFRID provided an outstanding welcome at check-in, including complimentary Starbucks vouchers. While as Globalist members we didn't receive a suite upgrade, our 28th-floor room offered spectacular views. The room itself was generously sized with excellent amenities: a comfortable bed, modern large-screen TV, and a balcony (though the height made it a bit intimidating to use). The soundproofing was remarkable – we enjoyed complete quiet throughout our three-night stay. A lovely touch was the anniversary dessert plate waiting in our room.
Dining: The Mosaic Restaurant serves breakfast daily, included with Globalist status (otherwise priced at approximately $40 per person). The service was consistently excellent, with Hailey and Francisco standing out – Francisco in particular, took time to engage in genuine conversation. We also enjoyed dinner at The Grain restaurant.
Staff and Service: The service excellence extended throughout our stay. Rey at the Customer Service Desk provided valuable recommendations for Vancouver activities. Patriza handled our check-out professionally and warmly. The hotel even prepared a packed breakfast for our early 6 AM departure.
Overall, despite not receiving a suite upgrade, this hotel deserves its 5-star rating for its exceptional service, prime location, comfortable accommodations, and attention to detail. The property maintains high cleanliness standards, and we would absolutely choose to stay here again when...
