Mosaic Grille — Restaurant in Vancouver

I would like to compliment the brunch in Mosaic Grille and Bar Restaurant. Hyatt Regency hotels are easily distinguished among other famous five-star hotels by its lavish accommodation and amenities, high standard of service and pure elegance in details. And Hyatt Regency Vancouver is just another proof of that. Hyatt Regency truly stands for its name in everything including restaurants.

We were pleasantly surprised by the elegant, neat, and warm atmosphere in the restaurant. The first thing that caught our attention was attentive, polite, and diligent staff, especially Ms. Eleni who warmly welcomed us after we sat down at our table. She was always caring to our needs like drinks and dishes. Ms. Eleni was always checking if we were satisfied with everything and if we needed anything else. In many restaurants this can be quite overwhelming when staff is constantly checking on you but here it was just so natural and effortless so it made the atmosphere just right  to enjoy the brunch with the family. We are very grateful to Ms. Eleni for superb customer service and for making the atmosphere so welcoming and friendly.

The brunches pretty much have the same display and organization everywhere, but in Mosaic Grille and Bar Restaurant everything was different. The food was displayed in a very unique way. Instead of just being displayed somewhere in the corner, the food was neatly and nicely displayed next to the center wall which you can easily see when entering the restaurant. The display of the food perfectly complimented the decor and it looked very harmonious with the overall layout of the restaurant.

Chef Daniel took great care in small but important details when designing the menu. First thing that caught our attention was the diversity of the food. We could see different kinds of freshly cut salads, fruits, meat, fish, bread, cooked vegetables and sweets. Everything was cooked for a healthy and nutritious family meal. The most unique thing that we noticed was the table with different kinds of desserts. Usually in most restaurants only big portion sizes of desserts are served. So, it might be overwhelming for people, especially ladies, to finish that big portion while thinking about extra sugar and calories.

But in Mosaic Grille and Bar Restaurant all kinds of desserts were initially designed in smaller portions which was really healthy and convenient. In this way we could try many different kinds of desserts without overeating and worrying about calories. Chef Daniel's approach in designing the menu was so innovative and special. Unfortunately I have to say the dining experience at Mosaic Grille was so very disappointing. I want to be fair in my critique of the totality of my group’s visit however I’m finding it extremely difficult to get past the MOUSE sighting witnessed at the end of our meal. The server witnessed the mouse scurrying underneath the near table and appeared to be as startled by the sighting as we were. She immediately went to alert the manager. The situation was bad enough all the way around, however it got worse (I could not believe that could even have been possible). The manager did not or would come and address the situation with our group. He looked our way, whispered to the server then disappeared. The server then returned and apologized. She said she spoke with the manager and discounted the bill. Completely unprofessional and unacceptable.

Moving beyond the aforementioned incident, the service was extremely slow. We had to flag the staff down throughout the meal for common service needs (taking our drink order, providing utensils, taking dessert order, delivering ordered dessert and finally requesting our check). The server was polite and her interactions were kind, however the service was less than satisfactory.

At this point I feel conflicted to report that the food receives high marks. The meal serving size was more than sufficient, the seasoning was excellent, and although we waited a very long time to receive our meal, it did arrive hot. Prior to the mouse sighting, I would have been inclined to giving the restaurant another try; we’d already planned to have breakfast there the next morning before leaving the hotel. I made excuses for the slow service as it appeared the may have been understaffed. After the mouse incident and the manager’s unwillingness to address our table, there is absolutely no recovery.
