Heartfelt Thanks for a Memorable Stay at Fairmont Hotel Vancouver

We recently stayed at Fairmont Hotel Vancouver to celebrate my nephew Jethro’s 10th birthday. Ahead of our arrival, I had emailed in some requests—like a rollaway bed and robes ready upon check-in—and I’m happy to share that everything was perfectly prepared when we arrived. The check-in process was smooth, our corner room with a city view was ready, and all our requests were already in place. It set the tone for what we hoped would be a special weekend.

Jethro is on the autism spectrum, and swimming is his way to decompress and find calm during sensory overload. While the hotel does have a pool, we noticed there was no dedicated kids’ pool, and unfortunately, the hot tub was under renovation. This made it challenging for Jethro as the depth of the pool scared him. We truly hope that in the future, the hotel might consider adding a more child-friendly option or a shallow area for kids with unique needs.

Still, one of the most touching parts of our stay came the next morning during breakfast at Notch8. As we were seated, a sudden loud pop triggered Jethro, causing a sensory meltdown. I want to take a moment to commend our server, Cynthia. She immediately noticed that Jethro needed extra care and approached us with calmness and compassion. When I requested our meal to-go, she didn’t hesitate, but also prepared our plates in case Jethro calmed down and we could still dine in. Though we ended up taking the food to our room, Cynthia made sure we had everything we needed and kept checking in with such grace and understanding.

It meant so much to us that someone like Cynthia, who understood autism, was there to support us without judgment—just kindness and empathy. It’s rare to encounter staff who are so attentive and aware of how to help families like ours feel truly seen and cared for. Thank you, Cynthia, for going above and beyond. You turned a tough moment into one of warmth and compassion.

Jethro may not have fully enjoyed the pool or the restaurant due to sensory challenges, but knowing there are employees like Cynthia made this experience truly memorable. Thank you to the entire team at Fairmont Hotel Vancouver for making our stay special and for honoring Jethro’s birthday...

The hotel is located in the city center, making it great for shopping along the commercial street. I booked a suite directly, but despite being a Diamond member, there was no room upgrade available. Additionally, I didn’t notice a priority check-in line for members at the front desk. When I arrived around 8:30 PM, there was still a long queue for check-in. As a Diamond member of Accor, I expected to use the Fairmont Gold service for a quicker check-in, but the staff couldn’t locate my reservation since it was just a standard one-bedroom suite without Fairmont Gold. After providing my booking reference and confirming my membership, they were able to proceed with my check-in at the Gold counter.

The suite was spacious and well-maintained, but it felt quite outdated. I was surprised by the small size of the bathroom; sitting on the toilet, my legs touched the wall, which seemed like a dated floor plan.

Breakfast was a highlight, featuring a wonderful à la carte menu that I really enjoyed. However, I was unexpectedly charged CAD 150 upon checkout. At check-in, the staff informed me I could have breakfast in the Gold Lounge or the restaurant, but when I am checking out my room, the reception staff said my reservation didn’t include breakfast. After I mentioned my Diamond membership, they finally acknowledged I can have complimentary weekend breakfast and agreed to correct my bill.

Based on my previous positive experiences at other Fairmont hotels in Vancouver, I will not to stay in this hotel afterwards. But I hope this hotel can also enhance its member services, as Accor Hotels typically prioritize their members and provide...

After 3 weeks of travelling, er booked this hotel for our final couple of days in Vancouver - the luxurious and service was just what we needed! ||We arrived just before rooms were released but the team stored our luggage and then transferred it to the room for us which allowed us to get straight out into the city, the concierge team were excellent - wonderful advice and always friendly. ||The room was large and well equipped; the bed linens were sumptuous. The only disappointment was that when we returned from a full day of sightseeing, our room had not been serviced. When we wanted to change for dinner, this was frustrating and despite a chat with the concierge (who was very apologetic and promised it would be sorted immediately) the room had still not been addressed by the time we went for dinner an hour later. ||Whilst it was sorted when we had returned that evening, they had not topped up our espresso pods and tea - so another trip to concierge. Very disappointing and not what I expect from Fairmont or a 5* hotel. ||The pool was large and a welcome addition but the water was very murky. We had read about the hotel having a sky bar, but no sign of this when we arrived - this is one of the reasons we had booked the hotel. ||There is so much to do in Vancouver and this hotel is perfectly situated to walk to most things, the sky train station is two streets away with easy access cross to the airport and plentiful local busses at the door if you do need a little assistance! Highly recommend Earls test kitchen for dinner a few doors away and heading to the English Bay for dinner to watch the...

We booked this hotel months in advance and paid over $600 per night. We had just stayed and 3 Fairmont properties, Banff, Jasper lodge and lake Louise, all of which were beautiful. We were excited to spend 3 nights in Vancouver. We booked the room with Chase Travel as part of their “Edit” program, which they claim “exceptional benefits at curated hotels when you book with Chase Sapphire Reserve". The hotel has a Gucci, Louis Vuitton, Dior, St John, and Omega store in the lobby so imagine what we thought when we opened the door to our room , see photos. The musty, unoccupied smell hit us as soon as we walked in. I had read that some of the rooms were older but didn’t expect them to be from the 80s. We went to the window to see our view, another disappointment, flat roofs and parking lots. I changed my shoes and wanted to see how they looked. Couldn’t find a full length mirror anywhere. I could only see from my chest up. Our son plopped down on the bed and the entire bed shook and creaked. Literally the worst room I have stayed in the past 20 years. Chris the manager was able to move us to a more acceptable nice room and was very kind but we never should have been given this room, especially after paying over $600 per night, which was more than the rate they were offering online the day we checked in ($425). The breakfast staff was wonderful and the location was great. Please don’t ever put guests in that room again.
