I stayed for close to a week. Two consecutive reservations. The first was for work for a client. I stayed in a more affordable room, with two double beds - if you can call them that. The bed was so uncomfortable - I had to take muscle relaxants to sleep. It was like a glorified cot. It's a nice hotel - I would expect a decent bed. Made me want to leave.
On the second reservation the bed was better, but still unduly soft. Much better. Those first ones don't qualify as beds.
In addition, the night before my final check out I called front desk to ask about extending my checkout time as I was there with other people from my firm for a conference and it would have been nice to have that space a little longer during our last day there. I'm not upset that didn't happen, but I found the way that the front desk person spoke to me about my valid inquiry to be rude and dismissive.
On check out, I asked the front desk person to modify my receipt from the hotel restaurant, to take the alcohol off my bill going to my employer. He just refused, but I know he could do it because the front desk person on my first check out helped me with that. I am travelling and working long days away from home and running between meetings and events and forgot to ask the server when I had to leave the restaurant in a hurry because I was running late to an event for which I came to Winnipeg. He didn't even try.
It was a surprise that there was no fridge. I had to throw away perfectly good leftovers.
It would also be a good practice to explain the issue with coming down from the elevator to guests when they check in. I got stuck waiting for elevators that never came and pressed the button to call an elevator but it wouldn't light up. Had to take the stairs and now my knees hurt.
The hotel is nice and generally the staff were good, aside from those issues.
Now, as for the conference centre - the signage from the lobby of the hotel to where events were being held wasn't clear, could be improved.
The conference centre was UNBEARABLY COLD. I asked the conference organizers to help with that and they basically said they asked but there was nothing they could do. I left the conference early because I could not bear to freeze anymore, nor the complete lack of responsiveness to so many of our requests. I will provide that feedback to our organization for...
Read moreI really enjoy staying at your hotel. The staff are welcoming and friendly, the rooms are comfortable, and the restaurant/bar is convenient and serves a lovely selection, especially after a long drive to get there and wanting to settle in is easily supported. The food tastes great too. The spa experience was wonderful, and again, due to the staff and the relaxing space they have created. The fire alarm at 2:00 am., was not fun but, the system clearly works, which is a good thing, and all was well in the end. I was able to share some feedback about clearer signage for the exits once you were in the stairwell and corridors, seeking out a route away from the building and onto the street for safety. A number of us ended up in a bit of a “confusion corner” at one point, where signs/directions would have assisted. Having said that, all were calm and problem-solving as we went. I was with my mom (91 yrs of age) and it was a learning experience, at a number of levels, moving forward. I was able to have a pleasant and positive conversation with your staff at the desk, early the next morning and they were receptive and interested in sharing my feedback at the next Health & Safety (?) meeting. The complimentary breakfast/brunch for all affected, was a very nice acknowledgment from the hotel Admin/Owners, as well as making sure the serving staff had their gratuities covered during that time. We wanted to be sure they didn’t lose out on that, because of the circumstances. The hotel is older, and still a reasonable price, (compared to many of the newer ones) in walking distance to The Forks and other key locations. One more thing, while I know it is never 100% full proof, the way you offer your parking and its proximity to the hotel, added some “peace of mind” that my car and contents (of which I left next to nothing in there) during our stay, was appreciated. My car make and out of town license plates, are targets for car jacking and thefts, so things felt more secure with your set up....
Read moreWoke up two mornings in a row with bug bites. Yes, I have pictures of them. Front desk first offered to take off parking. They then offered to change rooms. The room they chaned me to was a downgrade. From the ninth floor to the second floor. To a room on the side of the construction. A flood light lit up the room all night long. Having a hot shower in the room set off the smoke alarm. As the room was so close to street level, you could hear cars and sirens all night long. I did not realize all this until 10:00pm. I had to be up at 3:00 am to check out and be on the road by 4:00. By 10:00 pm when I realized all this, there was not any point in asking to be changed and to be downgraded even more. At the 9th floor, I could not hear the street noises, no lights or street people noises keeping me up all night. The second floor was also noisy with children running the halls. So with the bugs bites, which again I have pictures of. 10 in all and then the downgrade in room, i was offered 15% for the bites. The front desk person I originally spoke with spoke down to me and he made me feel like I was lying. The lady at the desk on Sunday morning did see the bites and the pictures. She had also said that when the manager came in at noon, she would have him call me. He did not and I had to go to the hotel around 4:00, which cut a visit short, as I wanted to be sure I would have a new room. I had to move my bags to a new room and run back out for the remainder of my appointment. Very inconvenient.
Also, when I checked in originally on Friday, the room (912) had water all over the floor.
The hotel looks beautiful, but to be made to feel like I was lying about waking up with bites that were clearly visable and pictures of, was not very professional or respectful. The room looks clean at glance, but the bug bites...
