Fort Garry, also known as Upper Fort Garry, was a Hudson's Bay Company trading post at the confluence of the Red and Assiniboine rivers in what is now downtown Winnipeg. Fort Garry was established in 1822, although its first iteration was destroyed in 1826 by severe flooding.

Whaaaaat? Okay, apparently this place gets high star rating because people just want a pleasant little park. However, if you are like me and think from reading the website that there's actually a fort here with buildings and a light and sound show... You are very mistaken. It's a pleasant little Park with a remnant of a stone entrance and a memorial wall with some nice gardens, but there's nothing left of the historic remnants. Perhaps people confuse it with the actual fort and buildings of the lower fort Garry 30 minutes north of town? We were very disappointed to spend money to park there and walk around and find that there really is...

16/01/2023. We visited Upper Fort Gary this morning and took a short walk. The new park with the 3D steel art work is very nice. There are plaque’s throughout the area explaining the history. It took us about 30 minutes but is was -8C so that speeded things up. I would recommend at least an hour in the summer so you will have time to enjoy the site. Very well done. We will visit again but next time at night as we noticed LED’s imbedded in the steel art work. I suggest that you go to YouTube and do a search on Upper Fort Garry”.
