I only intended to stay in Easter Island for 8 days, but due to the airport strike, I ended up staying for 12 days at Hostal Vaihere. Patricia, the owner of this hostel is very friendly and helpful. First of all, even before the strike, my flight to Easter Island was already delayed, and I didn't arrive until around 2am. Patricia was at the airport waiting for me with a sign, and she & her daughter drove me to the hostel. The airport is only 3 blocks from the hostel and the main street of Hanga Roa is only 2 blocks away. Everything is within walking distance. I had the single private bedroom with a separate private bathroom. The room is small but it worked just fine for me. It is the first room located right at the front of the hostel and right next to a little kitchen. The separate private bathroom is right across the bedroom. A few things to note is that since it is a basic hostel, you provide your own towel and toiletries. There is also no air conditioning so you may need to keep your window open, if you need (just beware of bugs/mosquitoes). Also, when you're not using the bathroom, keep the window and door closed. There were a couple of times when I left the bathroom window open (even though the door was closed) and some stray cats would jump in through the bathroom window and leave their dirty footsteps in the sink. I told Patricia about this and we were discussing potentially moving the tables right below the windows so that the cats wouldn't use them to jump up to the window. By the way, Patricia doesn't speak English, so it would be good to know a little Spanish just to ease conversation. Nevertheless, even if you don't speak Spanish, she is easy to talk to and is very helpful, and you can make yourself understood. She's the one who notified me about the airport strike and also told me where I need to go to check about the flights. She checked up on me a couple of times to see when my flight was. I also had laundry done here, which is...
Read moreDale and Soraya made my stay incredible. They picked me up from the airport, told me everything I needed to know about the island, and were always around to help answer questions. The hostel is cozy, and the environment is great for making friends. The beds are comfy, and the hostel is cleaned every day. ||Not only do the owners know the island incredibly well, but they love it, and it shows. They offer expert tours and hikes, as well as bikes to rent for cheaper than anywhere else on the island. Stayed 8 days om the island, and found something new to do every day. the hostel location is close to the main road, and the little enclosed pools on the coast. easy to grab fresh bread, or swim any time you want. ||||The wifi was in and out, but it's like that anywhere on the island. Dale will offer up his hot spot if you really need to check in or send something out. Can's wait...
Read moreI stayed at this hostel by chance, since I went to Easter Island without prior lodging arrangements. The location of the hostel is convenient since it is around the downtown area.||Though it looks modest and simple, the place is secure. There are video cameras in the common areas. A good place to meet travelers. ||The new manager is very knowledgeable about the island. As a first timer, I gathered a lot of insight tips from him. He told me the best bike routes to get to the Moais. He was very helpful, and available when needed. ||The hostel also rent bikes, and they organize bike tours as well. I did my own exploring, but for less adventurous travelers, I suggest going with Dale (the new manager of the place. He has a master in Archeology and knows very well the history of the island.)||I definitely got more value for the...
