You can rent a fancy apartment in the center of Santiago cheaper than a tiny double room in this hostel - however, this may actually be one of the more reasonable deals in San Pedro, because the village seems to be an expensive place to stay during summer.||||Location is excellent - just a five minute walk from the bus station and five minute walk from the main plaza, so plenty of shops, restaurants and travel agencies nearby. San Pedro is small, but still, there are quite a few hotels/hostels on the outskirts, where getting all the services would be much less convenient.||||The room was very basic - just two beds with a small space between them. Showers and toilets are outside and shared by all guestss. There was no toilet paper in men's toilet for more than a day. It also took some time to get hot water in the shower (which makes the environmentally thinking ones feel guilty - wasting water like this in the middle of the driest desert in the world). Wi-fi did not work most of the time. And we had to pay cash, even though officially, credit cards were accepted.||||There is also a noisy restaurant in the next house - you can hear the local band playing (same songs every night) behind the wall... not a major problem when you are dead-tired and fall asleep immediately after a busy day full of activities, but could be annoying to some.||||Stayed here for three nights (originally booked only one night - but after getting a taste of the troubles one would have to go through to find a comparable place in the middle of a busy season, decided to stay for two more nights). The owner does not speak any English, but was very friendly and let us keep the same room. ||||So despite of a few shortcomings, this place...
Read moreThe Hostal Intipara is situated in the center of San Pedro de Atacama. All sights of the city, such as the curch, the central square or the museum are within a small walking distance, as well as shops or tour agencies.||||The building seems to be an old private house. Like most buildings in San Pedro, it consists of a small front building at the street and an inner courtyard, that is surrounded by the guestrooms. If you enter the hostal, you have to try to ring the bell, untill someone pics you up at the reception desc. The landlady is friendly, but does not speak any English. So, if you don't speak Spanish, you have to communicate with hands and feet. But it works.||||The rooms are not very comfortable. Just basically equipped with the things, one needs. Nothing more. If you don't have a private bathroom, male persons have to share just one bathroom with all other male guests. Female guests have access to at least two bathrooms. The bathrooms are clean, but not in best conditions. In the male bathroom the water plug was broken the whole time, and it was impossible to get toilet paper.||||The rooms are clean as well, but very simple. The breakfast is ok and is served in the inner courtyard, which is a very nice place. The service is charming.||||At least, the prices are quite high for a quite simple hotel. But San Pedro nothing seems to be...
Read moreNot being able to cross the Bolivian border I had to extend my stay in San Pedro de atacama and found a cheap bed in the dormitory of this hostel. Beds are ok but considering that the dorm is in the shade the whole day the place actually becomes a fridge at 4 pm ( i stayed in other hostels in the City and They at least provide extra blankets). The kitchen is tiny and never fully available and within a few days I couldn't cook as it ran out of gas twice ( it took her two hours to mind changing it as her favorite soap opera was on TV ) and the minute she changed it she ran to make French fries ( and after waiting two hours to boil water for my soup I loved being infested by the smell of boiling oil ) so I had to wait another 30 mns to be able to eat. ||I was lucky enough to have some lukewarm water for one of my showers but she seemed to find it funny when I wasn't able to shower at all. I even suspect her to switch off the gas on purpose depending on her current mood. After all she was doing it while I was cooking ! Caught her talking bad about guests in Spanish so after that she and her buddies would only speak in another language/ dialect around me. No mention of any breakfast. I moved to another hostel quite rapidly. If you can't host...
