I stayed at Gen Rooms this past weekend as part of a spontaneous trip to Santiago, Chile. We booked the room as we were boarding our flight to Santiago and got a pretty good deal considering it was a very last-minute booking. The room we stayed in had all your basic amenities such as good Wi-Fi, air conditioning, heating (a necessity for guests staying in the fall), etc. For the price we paid, it was excellent value and I would stay there again if given the option. ||The only reason I did not give this accommodation a 5/5 was mainly due to the complementary breakfast. The lady at the front desk informed us the complementary breakfast would be served from 7:30 AM to 10 AM every morning. We had booked tours that we’re picking us up at 8 AM so we were hoping to have breakfast beforehand so we could be well fed before the tours. The first day we went down for breakfast, the cafe was closed and the door was locked. When we mentioned this to the receptionist in the evening when we returned from our tour, she reaffirmed it was open from 7:30 AM to 10 AM every morning. We showed up for breakfast around 7:45 AM the following morning and we saw the staff opening the breakfast area. The door was locked and they told us breakfast was not open until 8 AM thus leaving me to believe there is some miscommunication between hotel staff. We were able to secure breakfast the last morning of our stay and it was pretty basic - it consisted of basic cereal options along with bread, sliced cheese, and butter/jam.||Another thing to take note of is that the hot water tanks are a bit on the smaller side. If two people take hot showers consecutively one after the other, the second person will likely have a colder shower towards the end.||Aside from that, I cannot complain about our stay, the accommodations and location were great for first time visitors to Santiago. Try to request a higher up room for excellent views of the Santiago skyline from...
Read moreThe first mistake was booking a "4" star mystery hotel via wotif. Learnt before arrival that this is a wotif scam and their complaint procedure a sham to boot.. Research confirmed the sham but staying 3 nights showed the wotif scam to be worse. This is not a hotel, it's a residence in an ordinary area, where a number of rooms rented through a small office. The advertised facilities did not exist, the picture of the pool photoshopped. Clearly unused for years. It was filthy. Office couldn't even provide a map. Air con didn't work, and it was hot. Threadbare towels would have put in 20 years of service. Brisk cleaning service included removal of toilet paper, reporting of this, saw another room raided by the poor dear behind the desk. Breakfast avoided after one visit. Street noise terrible in rough n tumble zone. Toilet seat broken, but probably not noticed as it went uncleaned. Positives - the safe worked. A generous reviewer may give 2 stars. Again, this is a run down residence, not a hotel. We thought of moving but stuck it out and spoiled ourselves elsewhere. Wotif are a disgrace to the travel industry with deceptive and misleading...
Read moreLove this place. I got lucky that my apartment is on floor 2, with direct stairs to lobby. I don’t think I would have liked this place as much if I was on high floor and had to take the elevator daily. The seems new, but feels worn out a little. It probably has to do with the materials used at construction time. The building has everything you’ll need. The laundry 🧺 machines is super expensive in my opinion. It’s more expensive than the machines in Miami and New York City. It’s 1900 to wash and 1600 to dry. At this rate. It would be cheaper for you to go to laundry place that will do it for you and iron and fold your clothes. The elevator from ground floor to rooftop takes 44 seconds.
The cool thing about this neighborhood is that… anything and everything you need is 60 seconds walk away, from xoxo across the streets… to multiple restaurants and supermarkets. On Friday there is fruit next to xoxo. The best pizza place is Il Romano (across the street). Best laundromat is Lavanderia Roraima (9...
