Stayed here for 4 nights. The room is good, everything is clean, tidy and working. Lobby staff is apathetic, which for me wasn't a problem, but if you want to ask them about or for something - I wouldn't expect any help or enthusiasm. As far as understand, the hotel hosts a lot of conference and 'economy'-business guests, thanks to its prices and location. That explains the apathy of the staff, which understands that they need to mostly just don't bother anybody and their hotel will continue to attract big orders. The building is old, most of the windows get out to the 2 story road. Said windows are very small, can't be really opened and weren't cleaned in years.||||Check-in and check-out took less than a 5 min each at around 5-6 AM. Single rooms are small, but I don't know what would you expect for such price in Shanghai. 2 bottles of water provided each day with the room cleaning. I heard some hotels give out more and if you are uncomfortable using Shanghai's tap water for brushing your teeth and other hygiene staff - that won't be enough.||||Extension cord (with the variety of options for plugs) is provided and even outlets themselves are universal and would work with most of the international plugs. Clocks have USB-power outlets in them, so you most likely find a way to at least charge your phone right upon arrival.||||Hotel located 5 min from a little all-in-one FamilyMart and 10-15 minutes from 2 metro stations. Next to which you can find a full variety of great restaurants, cafes, western fast foods, and shops. It's also located Approx. 20 min from Shanghai Exhibition Center (the old one) for all you conference travelers. ||||The in-room bar prices are, I would say, reasonable, compared to some other hotels and as I already said, you can buy anything in nearby FamilyMart at any time. In-room dining is reasonable as well, quality seems fine and prices are just a bit higher than in similar restaurants outside.||||Room walls are paper-thin. You will hear loud elevator 'ting!' all night long. Floors shaped in 3 arms, and as far as I understand rooms 01-03 on most of them are located right IN FRONT of the elevators. So make sure to avoid them. I was staying in 07, in the middle of the arm and can't imagine how disturbing the elevator's 'ting!' would be in the rooms in front of it.||||To round up: If you are going to Shanghai for a short business trip and don't care much for luxury and additional services - this hotel would be just...
Read moreI stayed at Merry Hotel for a conference in July 2019. My room was fine, spacious, clean and comfortable. The hotel location is good too, quite convenient for taking the metro and traveling around Shanghai. However the staff at this hotel were very unhelpful and borderline hostile. First of all, all staff I had an exchange with really struggled with their English (basically, they didn't speak any). I do not expect that everyone will speak English to me, but I do expect at least someone to be able to communicate with non-Mandarin speaking customers at an international hotel. Secondly, staff were unwilling to accommodate any request, no matter how basic that was - such as printing my boarding pass for my return flight, for example. I was just told that they don't do that. Thanks a lot! Other annoying things included a hotel shuttle bus to the airport which did not exist, an expensive breakfast which I opted not to take but was told by colleagues was poor value for money and there were hardly enough seats for all customers, and a cold and unwelcoming lobby, which (unsurprisingly) was always empty. I would not return...
Read moreI just finished a long international night flight and arrived at 6am at the hotel that I reserved a room prior with. Room rate and availability was confirmed as well as early check-in. However, upon arrival they wanted to charge me an extra half day even though I had an email confirmation from their sales staff. ||I stayed at the hotel before which has somewhat clean rooms even though a little dated. The other facilities are in need of updates too but one should not be too picky for that price. ||In any case I was rather dismayed after arrival and a long travel that the staff and manager on duty were not even considering the email confirmation I had. Didn't had the nerve to start the day with a "Chinese-styled" argument so I just went next door to Metropolo hotels which accommodated me for the same price, with early check-in and friendlier staff and perhaps even higher quality rooms too. ||Merry didn't...
