I tried to check in at 2pm, was informed that the room was not ready for at least 1 more hour.Asked the receptionist for a restaurant, and instead of pointing out the ones from the hotel, she sent me to Yu Gardens...Come back after an hour and was informed that I need to wait for another 30 min at least. I was given a voucher for a soft drink, and I headed to the lounge to get this drink, I showed the voucher to lady and she said for me to have a cold tea that I agreed. At 3:35 stand up to get my key and the waitress ask me to pay for the tea, I pointed out that I got a voucher and she said that voucher was not good for cold tea and I need to pay aroung 230RMB for a tea I didn't want at the beginning, I was there just for the absurd waiting time for the room to be ready! I asked the manager, and they said no need and they would take care...Arrived in room 1771, a well-appointed room, tried to make a coffee, and the machine was not working... I called the concierge and informed about the machine, after 5 min a lady call me to offer me a bottle.of wine, that I declined as I don't drink offer fruit and at the end an upgrade to the room, I went to the toilet and left the room at 16:00 as I had a meeting. I arrived at the meeting with sweaty clothes and without taking a shower as I got the room over 90 minutes later... I received the key of the new room before I left, when I come back I tried to use the key but was not active, i headed back to reception to check what happened and they activated but didn't apologise for the mistake. The new room had a view of the Bund, so there was no upgrade of the room itseld was just an upgrade of the view...The hotel is nice, has good amenities, and breakfast is solid, fresh, but not as much choice as compared to Shangri-la Pudong. The pool changing room and showers need better cleaning and mantenience. The people at the reception and at the lounge need better training and level up their English to a better standard, hotel is 5 star, experience is...
Read moreOverall a lovely experience, very luxurious. The check-in process was particularly notable—it didn’t feel like many hotels where you stand at a counter to check in, instead your luggage is taken to a counter and you’re seated in armchair while the concierge checked you in. A nice touch! The rooms are extremely spacious, with even the fairly basic room I booked having a seating and dining area. Everything in the room (curtains, lights, AC) is controlled via an iPad, which also felt very nice. The bed was comfy, view of the Bund was stunning both at night and during the day, and the bed was comfy. The added amenities like a Nespresso machine, selection of Chinese teas, and bath salts for the huge circular bathtub were all greatly appreciated. The breakfast had a good variety of Chinese (especially Shanghainese) and western options, mostly on-par with other 5-star hotels in China. Not bad but nothing to make it stand out. My complaints are few, but worth mentioning: 1.) the AC in the room just wasn’t that effective. Even though the weather is cooling down in Shanghai, the room seemed stuffy. I cranked it all the way down to 15 C but still woke up too warm. 2.) I left my room in the evening briefly to grab some takeaway I had ordered and when I returned there was a staff member in my room!! He was placing a plate of fruit on the table (which id lovely and not the reason I’m complaining). I was quite startled and said “hello” in Chinese and looked a bit shocked but he didn’t say a word or apologize and just ran out while staring at me. Perhaps he only speaks Chinese, saw I was a foreigner and thought I couldn’t speak Chinese…not sure. It was definitely a...
Read moreSt Regis always live up to it's name.
We stayed for 5 nights, and every night was so at ease.
Location :
It's 5mins walk to the yu garden, and 5mins walk to the bund. The no 16 bund was way quieter and scenic than the one nearer to nanjing road. We had an enjoyable walk along the bund to the nanjing road. It was about 15mins slow walk over.
It's near to shopping mall too.
Didi could easily find their way to the hotel lobby.
Service :
Concierge staff were friendly, they helped me received and sent my parcel.
They always have a staff opening the car door for us, and greet us. We felt like we were at home.
I enjoy that little personal service from them, like greeting us with a "welcome back".
Housekeeping ladies are always smiley and will greet us! The turn down service is always so comforting from St Regis.
Butler service seems a bit different from what i used to experience in Singapore St Regis.
Room :
Room was huge! We paid for a room with no bund view. But the front desk still managed to give us the highest floor for my booking, with a pocket of bund view. I truly appreciate that! The view was okay. We see the rooftop of the other building, but at least, our sky was not blocked.
Bed was hard. But pillows were a bit too soft. Despite choosing the harder one from their pillow menu. Anyway, that's just a personal preference.
Breakfast :
Did not pay for any.
One thing to note : They do allow food delivery, but you will have to self-pick up at a food locker or receive it on your own. A bit of a inconvenience. But it's a common practise for most 5 stars hotels.
I will definitely return for the service, location...
