This is a place I have used for several years (since 2004) and several times a year on some give years. In Bogota I have not only used this hotel, but also the hotel in calle 100. On addition to that I have use Estelar hotels in Santa Marta, San Andres, Panama and Peru, but this is the last time I would use that chain.
On November 24, 2017 I checked in with my family (my wife and my son who is American citizen (born in the USA)) and the reception's supervisor (Ricardo) decided we had to produce something called Registro Civil de Nacimiento for my son. I explained to that gentleman my son did not have that type of document because he was a US citizen and we presented his American Passport. Than man said it was hotel policy we (my wife and I) had to prove blood relationship with my son, guess what: I researched the hotel policy and nowhere in there indicates such a thing. I also research Colombian law which says: if a different party other than the parents check into a hotel or the like must have notarized documents from the parents authorizing the minor to stay in the hotel with another person and that is only for Colombian children. My son is American. We produced the ID's and the passports which complied with all the requirements under Colombian and US law, but he insisted in that other Documentation. Finally I told him to call the American Embassy and solve the problem. At this point I was furious this man had the guts to ask me to prove blood relationship with my son.
We finally completed a bunch of paperwork with signatures and I do not know what else. Needless to say I am still mad about it and I will never ever again use a hotel from that chain nor will I recommend it.
Service was terrible, the internet only functioned for half and hour. We requested a wake up call (I am still waiting for that call) We had booked and pay for king size bed and we got 2 single beds. Unbelievable bad service.
The only aspect we can recognize was the excellent treatment we've got from ISRAEL at the time of check out. Very polite, very professional, very courteous, very diligent; he even presented me with a cup of coffee at 3:30 in the morning. That is what i was used to, to be treated with dignity and respect and not for some supervisor to question my fatherhood. If that is the case, you should have DNA testing at the front desk to satisfy Ricardo (even though my son and I look like twin water drops). and note in your information if that is the case all the documentation you required for check ins. We did not have any issues with Immigration or customs, What's wrong with that supervisor Ricardo?
But again, I will never book a Estelar...
