I recently stayed at Hotel Tequendama Suites in Bogotá with my husband and brother as part of our vacation through South America. We chose this hotel for its convenient location, which aligned well with our planned tours and activities. Unfortunately, our overall experience fell short of expectations, especially considering this is a four-star hotel. We arrived early due to a 7 a.m. flight and had requested early check-in in advance. Despite multiple attempts to confirm this, including a follow-up call the morning of our arrival, no one responded to my initial inquiry. Although the hotel advertises 24-hour service, no one answered the phone overnight. Upon arrival, we were informed there would be a fee for early check-in—50% of the nightly rate. This policy was not disclosed on Booking.com or communicated beforehand, and I wish the hotel had been more transparent. The service throughout our stay was inconsistent and at times disappointing. Staff members, both at the front desk and at La Terraza, the hotel restaurant, came across as indifferent and at times impolite. It often felt like we were inconveniencing them rather than being welcomed as paying guests. Communication lacked warmth and professionalism. The one exception was Johnny from La Terraza, whose kindness and attentive service made a significant difference. We only met him the night before checking out, but his excellent attitude was a bright spot in our stay and made us reconsider writing off the hotel altogether. Our room and the hotel facilities were clean. Rooms were spacious and comfortable. However, the Wi-Fi was unusable during our stay. Staff mentioned it was a temporary issue, but other guests told us it had been down for days. This directly impacted our ability to use the self-service laundry facilities on the 29th floor, which require an internet connection to operate. We had already purchased detergent and softener, and we added funds to the account provided by the hotel to operate the machines. Unfortunately, we were never able to use them due to the ongoing Wi-Fi issues. Despite asking for help and waiting for the issue to be resolved, no solution was offered, and the balance we had paid into the system went unused. Room service was another low point—our dinner order took two hours and arrived cold after a follow-up call. It was delivered very late at night, waking us up before an early tour. On a positive note, the buffet breakfast was included and quite good. We also had a few meals at La Terraza, and while the food was solid, the service was again inconsistent—except for Johnny. The hotel’s location is a strong point: it’s safe, walkable, and close to public transportation. I also had a positive experience at the spa, where the staff was friendly and accommodating. This was our first time visiting Colombia, and unfortunately, this was the most disappointing hotel experience I’ve ever had. It left us questioning how this property has earned four stars. While there are some strengths—namely the location, room size, and cleanliness—the overall lack of hospitality and basic service reliability makes it hard to recommend. That said, a single team member like Johnny proved how impactful great service can be. He truly turned our perception around, and for that, we’re open to giving the hotel a second chance in the future—if key improvements are made.

Overall experience is very good. This was my first time booking a hotel near downtown Bogotá. I have read many user reviews before choosing this hotel for my recent visit to Bogotá. All comments are valid. Let’s start with hotel/stay challenges. First, it can get very cold at night…there is a blanket that you can use…though, this is my first suggestion for Hotel Management, put a heater in each suite or have loaner heaters for those who need them. The second challenge is that I am an Expedia Gold member and I did not get any special treatment despite booking through Expedia. The third challenge is not being able to check in early… they have strict rules to check in at 3 pm, the best thing that I got after asking several times is checking in at 2:30 pm. The 4th challenge is area is safe and unsafe… safe as there are many security personnel outside hotel but I found it unsafe compared to a hotel in the north. The 5th challenge is the hotel is far from malls (e.g. it took me 35 minutes to walk to Mallplaza). The 6th challenge, the kitchen has few pans but no basic utensils…this is my second suggestion for Hotel Management, ensure that every kitchen has two plates, cups, knives, spoons and forks. Let’s talk about advantages of staying at this hotel. First, I got around 50% discount booking through Expedia. Second, the hot tub is free but you need to book it one day in advance. Third, staff are friendly and helpful especially the head of the morning breakfast buffet. Fourth, the location is near many attractions (e.g. museum and parks) and coffee shops (e.g. San Alberto and Juan Valdez). Though, the most important advantages of this hotel are: the hot water that comes from the shower in the early morning and the amazing diversified free morning buffet breakfast. I suggest that you wake up early with a hot shower at 6 am and head to breakfast on the 4th floor. My third suggestion for hotel management is to have a tip jar in the area of the morning buffer breakfast. You can have guests visit you in your suite but you need to register them at the reception. My checkout was at 5 am and it was super fast. Only the reception staff speak English … other staff speak Spanish only. I used the restaurant on the 4th floor for lunch. The service was super slow and the online menu is different than the real in-person menu…but the food is super yummy. There is another hotel very near this hotel that is called Tequendama Hotel. Also, this hotel can be accessed from two different streets. It is ok to get lost the first time you arrive…

The hotel is huge and generally nice . We arrived at 6 am, and the check-in was at 3 pm . However, they let us have breakfast at 7 am, and they accommodated us at 9 am with an upgrade to master suite, which is incredibly huge room. For example, the kitchen wasn't equipped with glasses or missing forks, but it was easy to solve it it. I just went to the restaurant on the 4th floor (breakfast area)and the staff with a smile happily gave me whatever i wanted. The shower wasn't working properly, and they toilet was leaking, but the maintenance team was ready in 5 minutes to repaire any issues in our room. The huge disadvantage was windows. They are not soundproof. Despite being on the 16th floor , the noise was really high, but after 1 a.m., it improved with less traffic. Generally , I have a very satisfied overview. Great value for money, very welcoming and helpful staff. The breakfast was wonderful 😋 lots of fruit, fresh juices, and vegetables . . Definitely 100% yes from me. Thank you 😊 Everyone have access to a spa free of charge 30 minutes sauna,30 minutes steam room, and 30 minutes private jacuzzi. Also, body scrub, face mask, hair wash, and massages are available for a little payment. 😃 The hotel view at night is really nice with dancing sunset sky.
