Ger ready for your ultimate Colombian experience! John your host is very friendly, helpful, and nothing is too hard for him. He is enthusiastic and proud his hostel. He's the owner, receptionist, guide, cook, cleaner etc. He'll gladly assist you with any questions about Jardín, and gives tips and hints on what to do, where to eat etc. The hostel has a lovely balcony to chill as well as a hammock and mattresses to sit on. The dorm is a good size and has an ensuite bathroom. It's a bit dark inside without a window, but this is common in Colombia due to the construction of the buildings. I didn't stay in the dorm so much anyway. The bed is comfortable, and John asked me what type of pillow I wanted! When my dorm mate spilt water all over my bed sheets, John immediately changed the sheets (even though I said it was just water and it'll dry). Breakfast is different everyday, so you might get eggs and toast, or muesli with fruit. Kitchen is well-equipped. There is hot water in the showers! Laundry service is available at a cheap price. Location is perfect; near the bus station and plaza. John can organise transport to Cueva Esplendor for you. We actually booked the jeep one way but when it started to rain, we rang John and he organised a jeep to pick us up. When we wanted to do a coffee tour, he arranged one to start within two hours! For what you receive, the price is absolute...

On the day of our arrival, the host, John, emailed us with a completely different address than the one advertised. The photos and location shown on Booking.com and Hostelworld are misleading—the actual accommodation is about 15 minutes further from the city center and is simply a room in his private home, not a hostel - Considering some of the other reviews I have now seen, I would definitely recommend booking with caution.

On arrival at the new address, we were unhappy with what we found. Instead of resolving the issue, John became defensive, insisting we were the first to complain—despite four other guests arriving at the same time who were equally dissatisfied and chose to leave. He even admitted that he avoids updating the listing to prevent his ratings from being affected????

We left, we contacted Hostelworld about this issue. They did not respond directly to us, but they cancelled our booking and refunded our deposit. Unfortunately, this also means I am unable to leave a review on their platform, which is why I am sharing my experience here.
