My friends and I stayed 3 nights at The Royal Inn. I would give this hotel an average rating overall but honestly the staff are so wonderful, which makes it better. Here is the good and the not so good of the hotel based on my experience:||The Good:||- Very central in the walled city|- AC worked great|- Super friendly staff|- Free hot breakfasts on hotel rooftop|- Big grocery store right the corner |- Affordable|- Free wifi is decent |- Our room had a cute little balcony overlooking the street|- Really nice small lobby|- Very secure entrance|- Pretty inner courtyard on 2nd floor|- Rooftop with tables and views, plus a small bar and hot tub with cool water so you have a little pool|- Fridge in room stocked with drinks and snacks|- Safe in room|- We got a late check out|||The Not So Good: ||- We were in room 202 (three beds) and it seemed to be one or two of the only rooms that have not been renovated. We could see into other rooms on the 2nd and 3rd floors while cleaning staff were in them and they had new beds, decor, wallpaper etc. They looked quite nice. Our room was quite dated and probably hadn’t been updated in over a decade. I imagine they are leaving the renovation of the three-bed rooms to the end as they most likely get rented by younger groups of friends who are not as fussy as couples etc.||- The room had squished mosquitos dried to the wall from previous guests.||- The bathroom in our room was rough. The sink, toilet and shower were clean but the walls, baseboards and floors were not. The bathroom overall felt gross and sort of soured our experience of the hotel. Will include photos.||- We didn’t have any water just before checkout, I think due to renovations going on in the building. I was in the shower when it stopped and my friend had to go down and report the trouble. It came back on 20 mins later but only as a trickle, which made finishing the shower super difficult. ||- They were doing some construction on the rooftop, which meant we didn’t have access to the hot tub/little pool the last night we were there.||- The cold hot tub on the roof was a little dirty. The inside sides of the tub were gritty and covered in a film. The water looked clean...
Read moreI had wonderful time here! Hotel has a cute sitting area in between floors (open air) and a terrace. The bedsheets so soft, the shower is huge, and the restroom has a handheld biget. The room had Alexa for lights and AC control (which i didn’t like much :) ) everyone at the hotel was so nice. I had cocktails and dinner on the terrace after wandering around the city - it was tasty and I could relax before going out again. You need to order your breakfast in the evening which was fine - They have good variety, but if you get tired of it - there are many places within 5 minutes walking with other choices. |Also remember that this is Cartagena - people are loud, partying all night and returning early morning to the hotel, so bring your mask and ear plugs :) |Definitely going to stay there again when I am back...
