Tldr: Noisy, water leaking from the ceiling, probable mold problem.
I had reserved a junior suite. The first one they gave me was on the first floor towards the busy Avenida El Poblado. There was no double glass window so you could clearly hear the street noise. I was not allowed to change rooms on the first night since the hotel was booked full.
On the second night, they gave me another room. This one was quieter, ok but not perfect, but further away from the street. However, after I used the bathtub, there was water dripping from the ceiling in the main room. I complained to the reception and they got it fixed.
After the second night in the new room, I started to get a sore throat. As it happens, I am sensitive to mold. My guess is that the pipe had been leaking for some time and it had caused a mold problem in the room. The room had an earthly smell to it, which could have been due to mold.
I just gave up, ate a loss of two nights, and went to stay at another hotel. I did not want to risk getting sicker.
I don't consider this acceptable at all, especially considering that I paid more for a better room.
There are many newer and better hotels nearby for about the same price so there is no need to even consider this one. E.g. Estellar Square, Hampton, and...
Read moreOutstanding employees from the House Cleaning to the front desk to the restaurant servers. I was there 10 days and travel for business every week so I know what good service is. The room was cleaned impeccably each day I requested. The restaurant food is great! Breakfast bar or eggs to order. I enjoyed both. I got to learn the 4 waiters/waitresses. The white fish, chicken mushroom sandwich and the club sandwich were all delicious. The location is great! I walked to the mall daily to visit the Beer Stop, a nice little modern sports bar for cold beer or drink. Every Sunday they close off the street in front of the hotel in the morning to allow runners, walkers and dog walkers to exercise...great people watching. The only negative is the house cleaners begin work at 6:00 AM! I was woken my first two mornings, complained and they moved me away from the employee elevator. Another thing is they charge you for any guest you bring in to your room. Quite a fee and very surprising. They worked with me on that as well, but I will think twice despite the great...
Read moreWe arrived at GHL Hotel Portón Medellín around noon, a couple of hours ahead of the official check-in time, and were pleasantly surprised when the front desk allowed us to check in early. Initially, we were assigned room 301, but its low floor and obstructed view were a bit disappointing. After requesting a room change, we were upgraded to room 801, where the stunning view truly enhanced our stay.
Luis, the bellman, provided excellent service, helping with our luggage and room switch. His warm hospitality truly stood out.
The breakfast was impressive, with a wide selection of food, and the staff were very attentive. The hotel’s location in the Poblado area is ideal, with Santafé Mall just a 5-minute walk away, offering plenty of dining options.
The only downside was the shower's water pressure, which was disappointingly low and made showering less comfortable. Overall, it was a great stay, and we recommend this hotel for its location, service,...
