The Somos Flats Laureles — Hotel in Medellín

I had a very difficult stay at the Somos Flats Laureles and I would not recommend for a longterm stay. First, the hotel gave away my room that I had booked for a month because I asked (in advance) to check in a day later. Even though I received confirmation on their end, when I showed up the next day I learned they had given away my room and cancelled my reservation. They were eventually able to find me a room two days later but did not adjust the amount I paid. I still have not received a refund for the days I missed. Second, the internet stopped working for four days and they offered no alternative as a supposed coworking space. Cleaning is extra despite long stays and there are animals (pigeons?) running inside the vents all day long. When I asked about it, I was told it was from the seniors' home next door.

As well, a housekeeper mistakenly told me I needed to be out of my room when I didn't check out for another week. This scared me as I had made no other plans for my stay. Due to these issues I wanted to leave early but the hotel would not offer a refund, only a stay at another location that did not have security. While the front desk staff are nice, ultimately the issues are too great for me...

My husband and I stayed here for 4 nights mid summer and enjoyed our stay. Jefry at the front desk was always very kind and helpful. We always felt safe walking to and from the hotel, at all hours of the day. A few drawbacks: the hallway area always smelled like overwheming gas. The scent would seep into our room and was bothersome. our air conditioner wasnt working for 2 of our 4 days so it got uncomfortable in the room the walls are thin, and noise travels through the vents. There was a constant light music coming from somewhere. You can hear other rooms and talking from outside early in the morning no hairdryer or iron in the room

Pros: comfortable and clean bed nice space with kitchenette great area, easy quick walk to all the action : Restaurants, bars, stores, the metro, soccer stadium

Great location. We didn’t know where to stay as it was our first time in Colombia. A friend of ours who lived briefly in Medellin told us about Laureles, and then we found on our own “the somos flats”. Laureles is one of the safest towns in Medellin with the characteristic vibe of college town/ hipster cute coffee shops and great restaurants everywhere. Metro was a close walk that we enjoyed as we would always eat some empanadas on our way there! Regarding the rooms, pictures are true and not deceiving. Lovely common area and everything was clean. Soap smelled and felt better than my own at home!

Finally, regarding the concierge Ms Carina was great- the place counted with 24/7 security, and Ms Carina felt like a mom giving us tips and reccs on Medellin and where to go. Lovely place. Planning to...
