I have been to hostels in Rio, Medellín, Bogota, Cartagena and never i had someone invade my privacy while asleep and wake me up as I was snoring. Happened twice during my first two nights in santa marta. The first night when I was going to sleep, I heard loud snores, I was happy that someone else snores too, way louder. I got my ear plugs and tried to sleep. Around 7:25 am I felt someone grab my foot which woke me up. I wasn't sure who did it so I didn't bother to report it. The second night, at 4 am someone grabbed my leg again, but this time I woke up quickly and clocked them. I told them what are you doing man, the person replied, oh you are snoring. I told him you snore too, and very loud but instead of invading my personal space and grabbing my foot you could have worn ear buds. If it was a woman being touched by other room mate in the room while sleeping, this would be a different story. When I reported this to the reception, they were surprised to hear this as this is not common and agreed with my concern. When I confronted the guy in front of receptionist, she didn't look keen on following the report and I saw her trying to fix things which is fine but the other person did not show any repentence or guilt that they were in the wrong. Honestly I wouldn't have banned the guy from all viajero hostels as long as he knows what he did wrong and its not a small thing, but didn't seem like he was affected much by it. Not happy how viajero hostels Santa Marta dealt with this incident. Would try to avoid this during my...
Read morePaula and Nerd from the restaurant were EXTREMELY RUDE to me and both are the reason why I would never return to this accommodation. They offer free tea at the accommodation, my throat was really sore so this was my go to drink. I was staying here 5 days maybe and always getting honey with my tea. On the last day Paula and Nerd gave me a major attitude stating that they did not have honey. I got extremely offended because this was something that was given with no hesitation and Paula has even brought it for me before. It’s like offering someone coffee with no sugar or no cream. They both had the audacity to call me rude as if they are not at work for a hostel that I payed for. I would never return or recommend anyone to stay here based on their service alone because there is clearly a bigger customer service issue at hand. They stated I got pushback because they were low on honey but it’s not like they cannot just order more, they acted as if this was coming from both of their direct paychecks to get more honey. If the restaurant is out of honey, simply order more, clearly they will need to order more since it’s low but it’s not okay to start rationing and being rude over free things like honey. THANK YOU NERD AND PAOLA FOR YOUR NASTY ATTITUDES, YOU BOTH ARE THE REASON FOR THIS BAD REVIEW. I TRULY HOPE YOU ARE BOTH TRAIND BETTER SO PATRONS ARE NOT LEFT...
Read moreViajero is a beautiful hostel with an amazing rooftop...and that's it! If you like a party environment and eating outside, it's a perfect match for you.
But if you are like us, and prefer to cook your own food and chill, I wouldn't recommend it. The kitchen is quite basic as there's no coffee cups, no good pans. The refrigeraitor is too small. The stove is really old and you have to wait ages to cook a bowl of rice. They never empty the bin. And there's only one small table with 4 chairs which is strange for such a big hostel.
They charge 5000COP for the towel, but they only had one available to rent upon arrival.
The guy from the night shift was listening to loud music after 11pm and came to us to tell us to lower our voice, which was quite funny once we wasn't talking louder than his music at all. Then, minutes later, I went down to ask toilet paper for the same guy. He said he was going upstairs in 5 minutes to change it. The next day until midday we still was without toilet paper.
In my opinion, Viajero Hostel isn't for viajeros at all. The beds are comfortable, but all the rest are too commercial. I believe they only care to sell food in the restaurant and...
