Our tour guide dropped us off at this hotel, which features duplex-style accommodations.
The room was clean, spacious, and included two full-size beds separated by a nightstand, a long sideboard with two small cabinets and a mini-refrigerator; a wall-mounted flat-screen television with pre-loaded streaming applications (simply log into your streaming account to access them), and a safe. The free Wifi was good. A remote-controlled air conditioning unit is also provided.
The bathroom offers a vessel sink with a wall-mounted liquid soap dispenser and ample counter space for toiletries, along with drawers and shelves below the sink, a toilet, and a generously sized shower. Wall-mounted shampoo and conditioner are provided in the shower; however, we noted a labeling error on the conditioner dispenser. (It was labeled 'lotion'). 2 plastic chairs were on the patio.
There was no table, chair, couch, cabinet, hooks or towel rods, phone, microwave, telephone, hair dryer, or facial tissue.
The outdoor amenities are well-maintained, with clearly defined walkways and very attractive landscaping. However, walkway lighting is absent, and directional signage to amenities such as the restaurant, parking, and pools is lacking. A few minutes walk from the rooms to the pool operates to the restaurant.
The outdoor pools are not heated. Two of the jetted tubs were not warm, but the 3rd one was a little warm.
The next morning upon check-in, the jetted tubs were empty. The front desk said they clean it every day. By the time we got back, it was already operable but the water was cold.
The sit-down complimentary breakfast offers a selection of three plates: fruit and pancakes; eggs, bacon, and toast; and a traditional Costa Rican breakfast of rice with beans, eggs, and sweetened plantain. Beverage options include coffee, juice, cold milk, and hot chocolate. The restaurant staff was pleasant however not everyone spoke English.
Communication with the front desk was through WhatsApp.
Our stay was satisfactory, although the inclusion of certain amenities would have enhanced our comfort.

Read moreMy family just spent 5 nights at Hotel Las Orquideas and it was wonderful! We booked a 2 bedroom cottage because we like having a kitchen to keep food cool and prepare a meal on night we are too tired from adventuring to go out. The little house exceeded our expectations thanks to little touches like fresh towels made into awesome animal sculptures daily. We all loved the beautiful tropical property with amazing diversity of plant and wildlife. The collection of pools was fantastic and I really liked that there is one table in a pool where you can sit on a stool just above the waterline, with your legs dangling in the water, and read or knit. There is a good balance of shaded spots and areas for sunning yourself around the pool and even a changing room and bathroom down by the pools. The restaurant is lovely and open for meals and drinks in addition to breakfast time. The staff are helpful, and their English is way better than my faltering high school Spanish from decades ago, so there were no problems getting our needs met. We all really enjoy the traditional Costa Rican style breakfast. It is delicious and filling, my son also ordered the American style bacon, eggs, and toast which he reported was also delicious, and we saw other tables order pancakes which I am sure were wonderful as well. And the coffee and orange juice were great as well-everything tastes better when you get it where is is grown! We liked the fact that we could easily walk down to the Salto swimming hole and enjoy the cool waters and high up rope swing action with a mix of locals and tourists. It is a short drive into the La Fortuna town center. I'm sure the places downtown are fine, but for our family, being a bit outside of the bustle was a nice balance of being able to get to some lovely spots for meals, the La Fortuna Waterfall, Arenal Volcano Park, whitewater rafting, and other adventures and then coming "home" to rest and relax in the pool. Hotel Las Orquideas was a perfect location for all this. We felt very spoiled and it made a wonderful trip even...
Read moreWe chose las orquideas because of the great price and location. Super close to everything! The rope swing was such a blast and is walking distance from the hotel. It is also very close to local shops, markets and restaurants, sloth watching, chocolate tours, hot springs and waterfalls! We also chose this hotel for the pool! we were on the fence because several reviewers said the pool was closed for maintenance but it is open (as of May 2023) and we swam in it almost everyday after we got back from our daily excursions! there are two hot tubs and the two main pools in the middle are a very comfortable temperature. we were able to order drinks and food in the pool which was really nice. the staff were super sweet, friendly and accommodating!
our rooms were simple but very spacious and very clean. they cleaned our rooms everyday, even on days we slept in and thought we missed housekeeping. Everyday we returned from our day trips with fresh sheets and towels and rooms were spotless clean! The ac was ice cold which was also a huge plus especially for my husband who runs hot. we had a mini fridge which was tiny but cold enough for us to keep ice for drinks and water.
The food at the restaurant was amazing! I absolutely love their typical breakfast which includes gallo pinto (Costa Rican rice and beans) with eggs, friend plantains and fresh cut fruit. plus the coffee was delicious.
I loved the open air restaurant because we got enjoy lots of wildlife right from our table as we ate. We saw several basilisks, iguanas, various birds, the curassaw, the Tucan and we even a spider monkey. the food and drink prices are also really good! The grounds...
