I stumbled across this hotel by accident. I reserved another hotel for 5 days because as a solo female traveler with no car, Il wanted to be in walking distance to the MA Reserve and the beach, but there was one day on the front end they did not have a room available. So, I found this very affordable hotel through Booking.com.|What a gem! The layout of the facility is situated in a natural setting, which means you'll be able to spot many wildlife on your own. |My room was quite spacious for one person, and had a nice balcony where you can sit peacefully and read, with a backdrop of tropical follage and wildlife. The bed was quite comfortable, and I was pleasantly surprised to find the shower had hot water! The cool is clean and attractive, and there are great views from the poolside dining areas.|But what really makes this place is the staff. From the minute that I checked in to the time that I flopped down exhausted at the poolside bar, to the gentlemen at the checkout desk who took my luggage to my room, I was greeted by and conversed with some of the most welcoming and engaging people on my CR trip. In particular, i spent a lot of time talking (and practicing my Spanish), with the bartender/poolside server Favian and later, Kristal, but everyone was fantastic. The selection and taste of the food was surprisingly good, as there appeared to be only one person doing the prep and the cooking.|The one possible downside is that the hotel sits high, and it takes two long stretches of very steep unpaved roads to traverse. My idiot shuttle driver refused to drive up there, despite other vehicles clearly driving it quite easily. So I had to walk and manage my luggage. ( Not the hotels fault. I booked a shuttle when I was in La Fortuna.)|Just something to be aware of if you're driving a rental car or plan on doing a lot of sightseeing on foot. It's quite the climb. But the location and the staff make it worth it. And you will thoroughly enjoy...
Read moreThe entry to this hotel is on an unpaved, one-lane road off the main road. Be careful of the blind turn off/on the main road. Once on the dirt road, there’s signs for the hotel, but no arrows to say which way to go! A GPS is helpful here. ||The hotel has a main building with all the rooms and a villa down the hill. We rented the villa. Check-in was fast and friendly. We were given welcome drinks of fresh watermelon juice. They have water and coffee available 24/7 at the main entrance. ||The villa was spacious, clean, quiet, and comfortable. They came in and cleaned the villa every day. We had 3 separate A/C units to keep the unit cool. The wifi was free and fast. We had plenty of hot (or at least very warm) water for back to back showers. The covered porch was a nice retreat, although it only has one lounge chair. The kitchen has a fridge/freezer and stove/oven. We had plenty of pots and pans to cook on the stove, but no oven mits or baking pans. We needed to go to the front desk to get a lighter to start the stove and oven. There was a sponge and dish soap, but no dish towel or drying rack. There was coffee and sugar, but no oil or spices for cooking.||We really enjoyed the use of the pool. The water was clean and warm. Breakfast was included and was filling and delicious. It included rice and beans, eggs, sausages, fried plantains, pancakes (some mornings), fresh fruit, cereal, toast, coffee, juice (a different one each morning). They gave us a ticket for pool/beach towels. When we were finished with the towels. It was easy to exchange them back for the ticket again. ||The staff was extremely friendly and helpful. Even the staff who didn’t speak English always had a smile and a “Buenos Dios” for us. ||I recommend a car for this location. It’s quite a hike to the Main Street / bus stop. We really enjoyed our stay here and would highly recommend it. I’d book this...
Read moreThis hotel was fine - clean and comfortable beds and really nice staff - especially Kristhel who had a big smile and was so helpful and friendly. Gorgeous view of ocean. But despite that I would not recommend it. My biggest problem was that they start loudly thumping bass party music at the pool from before 7 am until 10 pm. Our room overlooked pool and there was no getting away from it - super annoying. This is costa rica - i came to hear birds and wildlife which was totally drowned out!! The breakfast was meh - they were out of bananas both days we were here and the offerings were very basic. They have big sign in lobby saying happy hour from 4-6 but bar was dark and no one was staffing it at 515. No one staffing desk when i tried to reprt broken toilet. Location is up very steep gravelly rocky hill so if you have any mobility issues you must take taxi to go anywhere. Our stay was not awful but i am sure we could have found...
