Took my tweenagers on this adventure and it delivered! Chino, Junior, Juan, and Gabriel were AMAZING. We had a small group so we got lots of individual assistance, everything was done at the pace of slightly out of shape middle aged mom (it was me).
That said, I definitely would not do this one if you are VERY out of shape or are not able to do some steep climbs. The drive to the course actually dropped us off at the bottom of the course. We started off with a pretty steep 5 to 10 minute climb (it may have been much shorter, it felt like forever so I'm just guessing) on switchbacks which gained is elevation in a hurry.
After a pause we climbed a rope ladder to a platform and our first zip line. That lead to another rope ladder and zip line. From there we traversed a rope bridge and prepared to rappel down a waterfall.
A caveat here: this was done in March, during the dry season. The waterfall was nice and tame. Chino showed us video of the waterfall in the rainy season. Apparently the waterfall is forceful enough that you basically rappel down inside of it in a little pocket between the rocks and the water. Very cool sounding, I wouldn't take my kids.
The next part of the course was the infamous monkey drop. It was awesome, I may have peed a little. You swing out away from the cliff and drop into a pool of water.
From here we moved on to our final zip line and the final drop.
The final drop brings you back to the beginning of the course. It's similar to the monkey drop, but no water at the bottom.
After all of the delightful terror we were brought back to base camp and served a very yummy lunch before heading back to the places we were from.
An amazing experience, the kids and I loved it.
Some notes on logistics: it is a continuous adventure. There are no places to stop and change outfits so I would recommend wearing something you are comfortable wearing on a zip line and swimming in afterwards and then doing more hiking and zipping in. I did some quick dry type clothes and heavy soled water shoes. Back at base camp I had another pair of clothes to change into so I could ride back dry.
The guides brought water and snacks along with them. Water available any time, we paused for a snack break after the...

Quepo Canyoning absolutely blew us away! Our guides, Chino, Junior, Mauricio, and Gabriel, were incredible. They were professional, knowledgeable, and made the entire experience fun and safe. Even for the few of us who were afraid of the heights.
The tour was packed with adventure. We hiked through the jungle, spotting tons of wildlife like crabs and even poison dart frogs! Crossed a river to start off the trip wet. We got our adrenaline pumping with two zip lines, a rope bridge crossing, and rappelling down a waterfall. To top it off, we did a daring monkey drop from another waterfall!
If you're looking for an exciting and unforgettable experience in Quepos, don't miss Quepo Canyoning! Just be prepared to get wet and have a blast!
To take photos, bring either a go pro or a phone in a waterproof case for the action shots!
Oh, and they served delicious lunch after all your hard work, and there was even a snack halfway...
Read moreIf you value your time and money, stay away from Quepos Canyoning. They crammed 21 people into one group just to make more profit, and most of the time was spent standing around totally wet waiting for others instead of actually enjoying the activity. The lack of staff and extremely poor time management turned what should have been a fun adventure into a frustrating waste of a day.
The trip was supposed to end at 12:00 PM, but because of all the delays, we didn’t get back until 1:30 PM, which made us miss our next tour entirely. Staff were unhelpful, disorganized, and clearly not interested in customer satisfaction—only in squeezing in as many paying customers as possible.
This was an absolute disappointment and not worth a penny. There are plenty of better adventure companies in the area—choose literally...
