Location was great as it was equidistant from the main public beach/the national park and the downtown and the public bus stopped in front of the hotel every 20 minutes. It is not a walkable or bikeable area so you will need to take a taxi or the public bus. Bus costs 410CRC per person per usage, taxis were about 2000-4000CRC between the hotel and the town or about 6000CRC between the hotel and the beach. Taxi pricing is very changeable depending on your driver and how much spanish you can speak.
Staff was never available. It is family run but when we went to ask for more towels we went to the front desk 8+ times and contacted them through WhatsApp with no success. Front office is always closed and locked.
Attached restaurant is expensive, pushy, and a bit skeevy. Drinks had no alcohol, food arrived cold (a real feat in the incredibly hot weather there), waiters appeared to actively ignore you when you tried to flag them down and would completely fail to bring items like water even if asked multiple times....
Many of the other rooms were decent. We stayed in room 19. It was not nice. When we walked in it smelled heavily of mold. There was something above the shower in the ceiling that looked like mold. The entire room was damp including the mattresses. We had no towels (not even a hand towel or wash towel). The safe did not work. The whole room was apparently wood themed and included hand painted attempts at making a wood wall but for all of the walls. It was off putting for me and I am not easily put off.
The swimming pools were nice but they were full of sand. Fair enough, we are by a beach, but a pool vacuum would have been a...
Read moreI travelled with a tour company and stayed at this hotel for a few days. The accommodations were fantastic and the ladies at reception: Kattia and Jennifer, made my stay extra special. The price that I paid to travel with the tour company only included transportation around Costa Rica, our accommodations & a few excursions. Our guide provided the group with a list of activities to do in each city we visited. We chose our activities & paid for them on the day of that activity, directly to those conducting the activity. As a solo traveller I enjoy doing some activities on my own and do not want to be part of a group setting at all times. I asked the ladies at reception to recommend local activities that I could take part in during my stay. Kattia and Jennifer are extremely knowledgeable about Costa Rica. They are amazing, wonderful, kind, patient women who went above & beyond to find activities for me to do to ensure that I had a great time. I am so thankful and grateful that they were able to help me. They offered excellent activities. I was thrilled with my experience. The highlight of my entire trip were the activities they recommended. They have exceptional customer service, did a phenomenal job and I appreciate the time they spent to explain all of the activities I inquired about. Thank you very much Kattia and...
Read moreI rarely give reviews but make exceptions for truly awful experiences. I can only speak for my dinner visit (I didn't stay at the hotel- apologies - I gave one star but couldn't post unless unless I gave a mark....perhaps the hotel is excellent?). My enjoyment was totally spoiled by the the arrogant restaurant staff and the quite unique ceviche con pescado. Ceviche can be such a wonderful dish, with lemon juice, cilantro and a balance of complementary herbs. It was destroyed at Mimo's by the addition of small pieces of sugared strawberries to the extent a side dish of vanilla ice cream would have been more appropriate. Truly horrible. Zero stars. Worse still, the music is blasting! This a hotel/restaurant that thinks it's on the beach, but in reality is on a hilltop, in a residential neighborhood, no sea in sight. The place and noise is totally out of context (doesn't fit in) and visitors staying in nearby, quieter, hotels seem to know this and respond appropriately i.e. by avoiding the place. There are some truly excellent restaurants close by, with similar (or better) prices (and some with top quality ceviche), and now I fully understand why they are busy while Mimo's is virtually empty. It was my mistake to visit, a serious one, but I did try!...
