AVOID THIS HOSTEL. Looks nice from the outside and an initial glance but the staff are some of the rudest people I met in Costa Rica. I stayed mid-June and in particular, one woman who works there was disinterested, grumpy and looked at you like you killed her dog. Seemed annoyed when you tried to talk to her or ask a question. She was also extremely rude after I gave in my laundry at the hostel (as they have laundrette facilities) and when I got the bag of laundry back, a new t-shirt of mine was missing. I am sure they simply lost it in the process of doing laundry, but this receptionist's reaction to me raising this with them was shocking. I asked for a refund due to them having lost my item of clothing, but she then began to accuse me of lying, saying that I never handed in the t-shirt to begin with and said that I just wanted the money. She then told me I was accusing them of having stolen my t shirt (i never mentioned it being stolen once, only lost). She was extremely defensive and didn't apologise once, until the last minute she gave a very insincere apology, after I said that I would be leaving a bad review due to her behaviour, and eventually gave a small refund. An extremely snarky and rude woman who should not be working at a hostel if she hates her job that much. Unfortunately this experience tainted my view of Manuel Antonio a bit, and it was a very unpleasant experience staying at this hostel due...
Read morePlace is a little run down (very). The doors don’t hold shut when you close them and they have the rock that gets put in front of it to hold it there, sometimes it doesn’t lock. We were 9 to a room with 1 key.
Bathrooms: water gets hot, stays hot— but you share the bathrooms with so many people, it gets very competitive and competitive.
Atmosphere: breakfast isn't included, and in my opinion, it’s overpriced for what it is. I’m still hungry after eating it. (Even other meals). Good food, but not the best I’ve had.
Very, VERY loud. Traffic all the time, and tonight there was some sort of concert that I could hear every strum from. The windows have no glass, which is nice for the sound of wildlife, but not for anything else.
Pool could use some paint and more frequent cleaning, I wouldn’t swim in it—my friends did though.
No AC, but it’s Costa Rica and that’s very normal, plenty of fans. Only a sheet to sleep in and now towel provided. Towels are rented for a very cheap price of $2.
POSTIVES:
1.) Very kind and patient staff 2.) Nice hammocks and other accommodations 3.) Hostel Cat (she’s super cute, was kind of shy, but now we’re friends and I will miss her) 4.) Beautiful view, lots of birds, and I saw a huge iguana.
Overall I would come again, but remember to bring my own small pad lock, travel fan, disinfectant wipes,...
Read moreI enjoyed my stay but it could have been a whole lot better with some minor adjustments. I stayed in a dorm which was comfortable, but very hot with minimal fans. ||Pros|- BEAUTIFUL place!|- Handy location between quepos and Manuel Antonio|- Well equipped kitchen (although the oven wasn’t working)|- Really good buses into quepos and manuel Antonio, 380 colones each way and every 15 mins. The alternative is walking on the very steep main road so I recommend the buses|- Great social spaces to hang out in the hostel|- On site bar and restaurant||Cons|- No social activities within the hostel; hard to be a solo traveller here|- Hostelworld says its wheelchair friendly; it’s definitely not; so many steps between each level, and up from the car park|- The pool was really warm and didn’t appear very clean|- There are lots of ants in the dorms and on the tables in the social area |- Sadly I found one of the staff to be quite rude and unfriendly. Very standoffish and I avoided asking for anything where possible when she was on reception |- The restaurant didn’t have any vegan...
