I did some research on the local river runs, classes and outfitters. Based upon what i wanted to do, El Chorro, i knew i needed very good guides as it is a class IV and difficult. I found the reviews regarding the guides ability very helpful and i chose H2O Adventures to be our guide. When we showed up, they had everyone there ready; the guide, photographer, and the photographer had a guide as well. Our guide for the trip was Jesus. He was excellent at his instructions and execution on the river. He told us what to expect and what to do and assured us if we did as he asked, it would be challenging, but safe. Jesus was amazing and the river was as expected and more, crazy fun and very challenging. Because of an injury before the trip, we had to cancel on member of our trip and the company owner was great to work with in getting the credit back to me. I would recommend this adventure company to anyone. Great trips and the guides know what they are doing. I had a discussion with a local a couple days later and mentioned who i went with and they responded that they are one of the best in the area. I would agree. Thanks for the...
Read moreWe had an awesome day with Luis, Durman and Jesus. We are basically beginners and went on 'El Chorro' which is the upper section of the Naranjo river after being advised that at this time of year the water level is low so rather than it being class IV/V it's more like II/III. The rapids were tons of fun and the guides were great, plenty of time getting soaked but no-one fell out of the boat!
Other rivers in the area are the Savegre and Naranjo (further downstream). These are better after the rainy months (May-December). December/Jan El Chorro is very dangerous but Feb- May it's good for tourists. H20 don't even go on the Savegre at this time as the level is so low bit it might be fine with other companies if you have kids and don't want any thrills. El Chorro was through narrow sections through a canyon, really fun.
Only tiny negative was not being able to jump off a rock into the river which a few other companies were doing. Apparently somebody had an accident here a few years back so only some companies still do it.
Great day out, photos were a bit steep at $30 or 18000 colones at the end of the...
Read moreThey lied to us about the road being blocked to the Naranjo river due to rain, but then we found out that the same trip was still on with another company that was following the same path to the same destination. We were picked up from our hotel on time and taken to the office to be told that the trip was cancelled and that we had an option to go on the trip to the Saverge river which we weren't interested in. We had to find our way back to our hotel on our own which was so unprofessional from them. We simply believe that the trip was cancelled because they did not want to have it for only two people although the website mentioned that only two people are required for the trip to commence. So if you really want to go rafting in the Naranjo river don't risk it by...
