Well, my stay at the Radisson San Jose in Costa Rica was...interesting. We arrived at midnight and were given a room on the opposite side of the hotel. In the dark, we struggled to find the light switch and ended up shining our phone lights around the room. That's when things took a turn - we discovered unexpected roommates. Naked people(complete with titties hanging out - a horror show I most definitely didn’t pay for) that were already sleeping or dead as they didn’t wake up with our presence, screaming, or flashlight on their face. How the front desk representative gave us a room in which other people were already in, is well beyond me.
Long story short, we got a new room, but the rest of the stay was a bit of a rollercoaster. The AC units were no match for the tropical heat and gave tropical vacation a whole new meaning. However, a paradise it wasn’t. The traffic noise from outside was a constant companion on the 4th floor throughout our stay, so be prepared for the constant sound of mufflers.
We went around the city by 9am and came back to the hotel around 3pm for an afternoon nap. House keeping had never gotten to our room which is insane by this time into the day. I wasn’t about to call guest services as we wanted to just nap. After falling asleep for about 15 minutes, then house keeping comes knocking on the door. To which we rejected since sleeping was our priority. The staff was apologetic, but it felt like shrugging shoulders more than solutions. Breakfast was a highlight, though. Overall though, the staff was very kind throughout the stay and that at least picked up where the hotel was lacking. It’s an old style hotel that appears to have been a catholic school turned hotel based on the aesthetic. It’s ok to stay here if you won’t be at the hotel much and are looking for a cheaper alternative to the competition. If you're looking for a laid-back stay, you might want to...
Read moreWe expected a lot more from the Radisson hotel in San Jose. From when we arrived, the hotel looked rundown from the outside and the entrance wasn’t properly built up. When we were driving in, there were loose bricks and cones in random locations which made it very hard to drive around the Hotel and park our car.
The Hotel is only four floors, but it’s very widespread, so by the time you catch the lift, it’s a very long walk to your room.
The room was okay, pretty spacious. We had two double beds for three of us, there was a good coffee machine inside our room. The floor board in the bathroom was way too slippery
The lady working at reception was nice, but almost everyone else seemed pretty grumpy, particularly the concierge. The lady working at reception falsely informed us that the city is safe within a one hour radius of the hotel, and then when we got to the central Avenue, the police told us that we need to stay in the central Avenue and that they cannot help us outside of this location. There are lots of druggies and junkies walking around which made it quite unsafe.
The Hotel breakfast was very average, lots of fatty oil used in the omelette, and not too much other variety in the foods available. No chicken or beef available.
The location is tough, it’s about a 20 minute walk from the Central Avenue which is the main walking street in San Jose. Your best bet is to catch Uber to and from the central area if you are planning to visit.
We didn’t get to use the facilities like the gym, swimming pools or the spa, but it seemed a bit counter intuitive because there were two separate gyms and we were a bit confused about how this worked.
Overall, we were quite disappointed with our experience at the Radisson hotel in San Jose. The management needs to do lots of work to get the Hotel in for structure reconstructed quickly, and ultimately do better to deliver much better guest...
Read moreWorst customer service ever! Very agressive & incompetent staff at reception. From far the worst Radisson Hotel I ever stayed at... Doesn't deserve its standard stars at all. The hotel doesn't look like the photos displayed at all, it is an old dated gigantic hotel complex, everything is old... Needs a good refresh... it might have been glorious 2 decades ago, but it’s not the case anymore! Room was extremely smelly, terrible smell of mold and humidity. The carpet floor holds decades of stains, it was gross. Crazy & non sense policies, they refused access to coworkers & clients of mine that simply came collecting datas to my room. Even though I paid (by booking mistake for 2 pax & was alone) Never I have paid extra on top of extra for simple visitors that stay less than 15 min! This is just a pure scam, and you should be ashamed of it. They were not here to sleep in the hotel, simply attending work meeting, transferring data that require lots of computers & photo equipments that cannot be carried around the hotel... Screaming aggressively & chasing after one of my coworker down the reception hall is not only outrageous & ridiculous it is very unprofessional! Never ever in my life have I seen someone getting denied entry to the room that I pay for. If you do not wish to work in hospitality, well find another job or go back to training! And deactivating the room card simply as a "payback" to force your customer to cross all over again the gigantic complex to come back to reception is not only childish, it also shows that you have O respect at all for your clients.- Untrained staff, cleaning lady entered the room without knocking & woke me up even thought a Sign "Do Not Disturb" was hanging by the door... Poor breakfast, lots of frozen food... not even a real fresh fruit juice... not what you'd expect in that type of...
