Villa Scalaria, Split — Hotel in Grad Split

This was a bit of an odd experience. ||Good parking facilities, nice staff, clean and comfortable rooms - with a nice big bathroom and good shower.||The location was good - within easy walking distance of lots of cafes and restaurants and tourist sites.||But the reception is in a windowless basement and our room was on the same level. Because of the slope of the land, this turned out to be on the first floor - above a restaurant and close to the noisy street. The windows were double glazed, but you could still hear voices from outside.||There was no front entrance to the hotel - just a small door opening onto a side street, so it had a bit of a sterile feel.||There were also a few odd money-saving features - a light switch only at the top of the stairs, so you couldn't see very well coming up and only very basic tv channels - just the...

This was a very good choice. We were just here for one night. We chose the apartment as there were three of us and we really wanted 2 separate rooms. This place was perfect for us. It was a really high quality modern apartment, clean, spacious, with a nice view and a bit of a terrace. Although we didn’t do any cooking, we sure appreciated the refrigerator. I was on the pull-out sofa bed.. and the mattress on that could have been better.. maybe provide a topper? The staff where excellent, friendly and very accommodating. We arrived far too early for check-in but were able to leave our bags there and go explore. This is a very small hotel in the basement of a building ( rather difficult to find at first) but it's within minutes of the centre of Split and very near the ferries for connection to other islands. ( However the signage at the ferry terminal isn't great and we were glad that we set off - on foot - at 8am for the 9am ferry.) The air con is a relief from the heat outside, and Juliya on the desk was incredibly friendly and helpful. She told us how to walk to the nearest beach which was great - I had a lovely swim there and jumped off the harbour wall into the sea which was fun.
