I find when reviewing a restaurant it is extremely important to be candid, because if we, as reviewers are not then anyone who reads the reviews we post will be misled. Before coming to Croatia we did a lot of checking on the “out of the way,” restaurants that maybe the well known hotels wouldn’t suggest so in order to find these places you depend on google or trip adviser reviews.
We ate at Konoba tonight and we were extremely disappointed by candidly everything. So I really wonder what you were thinking about when you reviewed this establishment in the last 60 days. Really what were you thinking? We tried 3 different appetizers, the tuna tartare, the beef carpaccio and the sampler. Irony of all ironies was that the anchovies on the plate, were identical to those you can buy in a supermarket and add to a Caesar salad. The entrees were tuna, extremely over cooked and a cuttlefish risotto with black ink, at least that dish was passable. The wines were typical of the region and price fairly. The service was fine, they tried hard. Maybe after all of the great meals we’ve been eating we’ve become more critical, but what I still can’t get over is all of the other unbelievable reviews from you on this restaurant
ONE LAST thing I learned, buyer beware they overcharged by 35-40%. We ate tonight at one of the premier restaurants in Split, (review will follow,) at Artichoke and the restaurant was excellent and the cost was 30% less. Thank you other reviewers for being so candid about your...
Read moreThis is a cute restaurant and the service was fine but the food was so bad we left without eating more than a few bites of our entrees. We ordered the vegetable risotto as a stater and the rice was undercooked to the point of the grains being hard in the middle. The waiter noticed that we didn’t eat it and comped us two bottles of water, which was fine but I think they should have comped us the dish as it was basically inedible. The entrees were similarly disappointing. We got the tuna, which was overcooked and had a distinct fishy flavor that worried us. It came with some kind of sauce on the side that tasted good but made our mouths tingle, almost like an allergic reaction except that all four of us experienced it. We also got the prawn makaroni as an entree. The noodles were mushy, the prawns were minuscule and looked like they came from a can, and the sauce was completely flavorless even after adding salt. I’d strongly recommend going elsewhere. We left and got a second (edible!) dinner at a different restaurant even though we paid the full price of this meal...
Read moreI almost never have bad food at a restaurant. Maybe this was an off night for them or they’re so used to giving tourists whatever passes as edible that they didn’t care what I was served. I had the risotto which could have been great if they had just cooked it a few minutes longer. There is a fine line between al dente and crunchy. Needless to say this was the only crunchy risotto I’ve ever had. The flavor was nice, sans creaminess indicative of a good risotto, but I’m pretty sure it went through a microwave as there were some really hot spots and some that were cold. I got the monkfish for my main course and it was chewy and freezer burned except for a couple pieces of what little they gave me. The sauce was delicious though. Didn’t have that great lobster tail like tenderness monkfish usually has. In fact, while trying to debone it, the meat acted like a rubber band and snapped back onto the bone, splashing sauce in my face. I would never eat at this place again and because I wasted €65 I will tell you that you...
