Tomas is such an enthusiastic host. We were warmly greeted with figs from his garden and assorted Rakijas, and he set about showing us how to navigate the tiny winding streets of the fortress neighborhood.Palace Stafileo is steps from a multitude of superb restaurants and cafes, and the wider harbour is one minutes walk. That harbour strtech, where the larger cruising boats tie up, is the clubbier part of town, rather busy with tourists, bars with bottle deals and widely varying qualities of food. You pay to sit on the broad waterfrong promenade, and it may not be worth the premium if product quality is important to you.|Back home at Stafileo, the palace is spotless, decorated with family photos and paintings, With the exception of a morning rooster somewhere nearby, your room will be exhultantly quiet. We had windows wide open all night in October and slept like the dead! As a cautionary note, if you arrive by car, parking adjacent to the fortress is very expensive, so park your vehicle on the other side of the narrow canal (along the avenue Alozija Stepinca) meet up with Tomas or Marina, and arrange a free 15 minute parking stop to unload bags. There is longer term parking - very reasonable over at the Bok cafe, only a 7 minute walk from the palace walls. Tomas can arrange for that with the...
Read moreFeel completely ripped off and will not be returning to Croatia. So arrived and apartment looked ok but when we got up in the morning we found the coffee machine was full of gunk! Then we went to find the outside space that was advertised...there isn't any unless u want to pay silly prices in the bar and restaurant ..I did get a mohito for 11 euros but it tasted very strange. Then the horrendous bells 5 o clock every morning. We asked to speak to the owners but this was not possible. We accept this apartment is functional and ok for a one or two night stay but not a base for a holiday. If the advert and reviews had been honest about the courtyard being for customers only we would NOT have booked this and wish we had booked a nearby property with roof terrace and jacuzzi. Please don't get ripped off like us this is. Small apartment with No...
Read moreWe got to know the owner and the lady responsible for the delicious food. Both are great and nice persons. Luckily there wasn’t to much traffic and the owner himself showed us everything from his tiny but lovely apartments to the history behind his interiors (vines) and the given name Stafileo. I can’t fully remember but the origin of its name comes from Kastel Stafilic which has Greek origin. The family who grew vineyards at the Kastel had a coat of arms containing a cluster of grapes (staphile) which can also be found within the Konoba Stafileo.
Considering that the owner did not only open a Konoba in Trogir but did his research and found this beautiful part of history and turned it into such a special place with delicious food and a heartwarming reception, entertainment and service, is extraordinary and not easy to find...
