A Relaxing Stay at Basilica Holiday Resort The Basilica Hotel & Apartments, also known as Basilica Holiday Resort, is a centrally located hotel in Paphos that offers a laid-back and relaxing atmosphere. It’s an ideal choice for those who prefer a quieter holiday without loud music or over-the-top entertainment. While some aspects of the resort could be improved, it provides a comfortable and convenient base for exploring the area. Pros & Cons Pros • Relaxing Atmosphere: The hotel has a very calm and chill vibe, with no loud music or intense entertainment. • Central Location: It's located very close to the center of Paphos, making it easy to access local attractions. • Good Food & Drinks: The buffet meals, especially dinner, offer a great variety and the food is very nice. Drinks at the bar are also a plus. Cons • Layout: The separated buildings and accessible grounds can make it feel a bit exposed. • Chargeable Safe: The in-room safe is an extra cost, which is an unexpected expense. • Noisy Air Conditioning: The air conditioning is efficient but quite loud, which could be an issue for light sleepers. In-Depth Review Our private transfer from Paphos airport took about 20 minutes, dropping us off right outside the hotel, which was a huge convenience compared to a coach transfer. Check-in was quick and easy, and we were even able to get a drink from the bar before it closed. It was a nice touch that the hotel had prepared sandwiches and fruit for us since we arrived after the evening meal service, even though the sandwiches were a bit dry.
We had a one-bedroom apartment, and while the interior was a bit plain, it was clean. However, the layout of the apartment was a bit strange, with the front door opening directly into the main living area, which felt a bit exposed. This led to a bit of a shuffle with sleeping arrangements, but we made it work. The air conditioning in both rooms worked well, but it was quite noisy. It's also worth noting that the safe in the room is an additional charge.
The hotel’s location is excellent. Its central position makes it very convenient, but the fact that the buildings are separated by public roads and alleys felt a bit unusual. We were glad our apartment wasn’t in the Artemis building, which is across two busy roads.
The pool area is a definite highlight. It's spacious and has plenty of sunbeds, and we never had an issue finding one, even after 10:30 am. There were even sunbeds available later in the day, which is perfect for people returning from excursions. The pool itself is very relaxed, allowing for balls and floaters, and it's not overly crowded. There's no loud music or entertainment team, which is perfect if you want to unwind. The sunbeds themselves are a mix, and some of the older ones were showing signs of wear and tear, with a couple even breaking during our stay.
The dining experience was consistently good. Breakfast had a wide selection, catering well to British tastes with items like bacon and sausage, and the coffee was good. Lunch and dinner were also very pleasant, with a relaxed atmosphere and no trouble finding a table. Dinner, in particular, was great with a variety of delicious choices. The hotel and surrounding area also have plenty of friendly cats, which was a delight, but might not be for everyone. In the evenings there was entertainment in the restaurant area which ranged from traditional Cypriot dancing to your typical cheesy holiday singing entertainment.
The Wi-Fi was generally reliable and available in most areas, but the speed wasn't consistent enough for streaming, so don't count on being able to use a Firestick or similar device. The on-site Jet2 rep was helpful and friendly, offering information on excursions without any pressure.
Overall, if you're looking for a low-key, relaxing, and centrally located holiday, Basilica Holiday Resort is a...
Read moreThe Basilica is a lovely place for anyone to holiday. It's extremely close to the Harbour area in Paphos where all the restaurants, bars and shops are. It is also directly opposite a large well equipped supermarket, which caters for everything you will need. The Basilica itself is made up of about 7 blocks of accommodation spread around a 500sqm area. 2 blocks are directly near the reception/pool/restaurant (Thalia and Penelope), there are the Harbour Suites which are slightly further out and Erata. We stayed in one of the Artemis Blocks which are across the road and closer to the Harbour. It meant that we had to cross the road again to access the pool and bar/restaurant but that really didn't bother us. However on arrival at almost 10pm, we did wonder where on earth we were heading for! The Artemis Blocks have been beautifully refurbished and the rooms are well equipped, modern and are serviced everyday, with fresh towels, bins emptied and swept/mopped. We had a 1 bedroom Superior room and it comfortably slept 2 adults and 2 children. The children were on the settee and a foldout bed in the living area. On arrival we had a most welcome bowl full of fruit and a bottle of water. The air conditioning worked perfectly in both rooms, there was a small kitchette with 2 hob rings, fridge, microwave, crockery, cutlery etc. We were self catering and it was perfect for the times we prepared food in the apartment. There was also a good sized balcony, although they were only 2 chairs, but that seemed to be the case on all the balconies we saw. With the superior rooms you also get a fresh pool towel everyday. There is free Wi-Fi across the site, which is fantastic. The reception staff Antonia and George were so helpful and friendly each time we saw them. Andriana and Costas in the bar and restaurant were lovely too. We were room only but ate in the restaurant twice. Each time there was an eat as much as you like buffet with fantastic array of fresh food, local cuisine, salads, fruit and even a 'kids corner' which offered chips, nuggets, pasta, etc. We paid €14 per adult and €7 for the children which was definitely worth it. You can even upgrade your type of stay if you like (breakfast, half board or all inclusive) we didn't but would certainly consider the all inclusive option for €30 per day for adults and €15 for children if we stayed again (breakfast, lunch, dinner, all drinks and snacks!). The pool was a good size with the use of inflatables, sunbeds (although they were sometimes 'reserved' all day with no one there!). I would certainly recommend the Basilica, we had a great time there and will stay again if we ever...

Pros: staff are friendly and helpful food is decent and fairly varied for all inclusive which is a bonus. Fresh pancakes and omelettes at breakfast, as well as the typical full English items. The continental wasn’t the best with poor quality meat. Lunch and dinner were nice, with a good variety including local dishes. Even the fussiest would surely find something! We didn’t have a bad meal. drinks are nice and bottled water provided with all inclusive. Only one cocktail of the day is included though. location is good; very close to shops and main harbour/promenade/restaurants and bars aircon worked great and you didn’t need to faff with key cards etc 👍🏻 bedding and towels changed midweek
Cons the rooms are not all connected to the hotel. We were across the road, a few minutes walk but there were some that were even further away. It was just a little inconvenient although it did mean it was fairly quiet. The room was just grubby. Furniture with stains, floors not cleaned properly (there was sand and we hadn’t even been to the beach) and bathroom wasn’t cleaned once during our stay. There was thick grime on the towel holders and sink. The shower was a cubicle with a shower curtain that didn’t go all the way down, which resulted in flooding the bathroom every time we showered. the first two nights we had only a single curtain on the window which of course let lots of light in the room. Receptionist did apologise for it not being dealt with quicker. the shower head was utterly disgusting 🤮 granted, this was replaced swiftly - but it really should never have been that way to begin with had it been cleaned. the balcony is mostly taken up by an aircon unit and the view isn’t very interesting. We were lucky though to even see the ocean and have a balcony at all! Some rooms allegedly didn’t! there are not enough sunbeds for the quantity of guests, and there was a huge issue with selfish guests reserving beds early in the morning and not even using until much later. The signs did nothing to deter and the staff didn’t do anything to prevent it from happening. Very disappointing. it didn’t matter to us, but the TV only had the news in English, no smart TV. the pool is quite shallow so you can’t really swim in it properly. It’s also like a warm bath which some people may prefer but I like a pool to cool down!
Overall, we did have a nice time, but I just wouldn’t recommend it based on the negatives that unfortunately let it down. The staff are really great, but the rooms are just not up to even a...
