Only ate the restaurant did not stay at hotel. We ate here last night and as the place was very busy went with the it must be good it’s packed approach, staff very friendly on arrival. Three of us ate including my wife and son (22), we had a dips starter which apart from the tzatziki which was nice the rest disappointed, the hummus was like water and after having traditional hummus 2 days before elsewhere this was a very poor offering, our mains were all from the traditional part of the menu and arrived 20 mins after. My wife went with the moussaka, my son had traditional chicken kebab and I had the pork chop, when the mains arrived my pork chop looked amazing as did the moussaka, the kebab looked like the Iceland chicken kebabs in the UK, it was dry and tasteless and my son struggled to chew it, nor could he cut through the bread it was served on as it was rock hard, his chips were under cooked and over-all his meal was terrible. The moussaka was presented well, was very plentiful and overall tasty but it was luke warm which was a shame as they seemed proud that it was home made, a basic temperature check would have made the meal amazing. Whilst eating our meals we were not once asked if the meals were ok and considering the old fella in the red t shirt was running around the restaurant like a worker ant making sure the tables were turned around quickly, it seemed they were more focused on numbers of customers coming in over anything else. My pork chop was amazing and piping hot when it arrived so I can’t complain about the dish, the accompanying potato gratin I chose was luke warm and served in a separate bowl and that was a shame. I could have moaned about the issues but we would have been there all night sending back food and I didn’t have fight in me to complain (and the way the young server with the beard muttered under his breath about the amount of food left on my sons plate I believe it wouldn’t have gone down well if I did complain). Meal came to 67 euros and I took that on the chin, I won’t be back, and from my experience I can’t recommend the restaurant which was a shame as the serving staff were genuinely nice, but I want a decent meal not a...
Read moreMy family and I visited Happy Days Restaurant in Protaras around 10 PM and politely asked if we could have something to eat. What followed was absolutely disgraceful.
We weren’t greeted—we were confronted by an older man, who appeared to be the manager. His behavior was appalling: rude, aggressive, and completely disrespectful. From the moment he approached us, he treated us like we were a problem, like we had no right to be there. He made us feel like pests—subhuman. I have never, in my life, been spoken to or treated in such a demeaning way.
We decided to order light meals, mostly because we felt so unwelcome and uncomfortable. This man then interrogated me about my order, rudely telling me I had “never ordered that before,” as if he had any right to question our choices. To make things worse, he then walked away and openly complained about us to a waitress within earshot.
To his credit, a very kind staff member later came to us and apologized for the manager’s behavior. But by then, the damage was done. The bitter taste was already in our mouths—not from the food, but from the treatment.
I will be taking this further. I am Cypriot myself, and I am ashamed that someone like this is allowed to serve tourists. It’s an embarrassment to our country. Visitors deserve to experience the warmth and hospitality Cyprus is known for—not this kind of hostility and humiliation.
This man should not be in a position of power in any restaurant, let alone one that represents our island to the world. Absolutely...
