Sonja Grill, located in the picturesque town of Protaras, Cyprus, is a culinary gem that left me thoroughly impressed. From the moment I stepped into this cozy restaurant, I knew I was in for a treat. The combination of warm hospitality, delightful ambiance, and mouthwatering food made my dining experience at Sonja Grill truly memorable.
Let's start with the star of the show - the garlic bread with cheese. It was a heavenly creation that I simply couldn't get enough of. The bread was perfectly toasted, with just the right amount of garlic flavor, and the generous layer of melted cheese on top added a rich and savory twist. It was a delightful appetizer that set the tone for the rest of the meal.
Now, onto the main course: the sirloin steak with peppercorn sauce. This dish was a masterpiece of flavors and textures. The sirloin steak was cooked to perfection, tender and juicy, with a succulent char on the outside. The peppercorn sauce, creamy and robust, added a delightful kick to every bite. The dish was beautifully presented, and the portion size was generous, leaving me fully satisfied. It was truly one of the best steaks I've had in a long time.
The service at Sonja Grill was impeccable. The staff members were friendly, attentive, and knowledgeable about the menu. They took the time to ensure that every detail was attended to, from recommending the perfect wine pairing to providing prompt and efficient service throughout the evening. The overall dining experience was enhanced by their genuine warmth and hospitality.
The ambiance of the restaurant was cozy and inviting. The tasteful decor, soft lighting, and comfortable seating created a relaxed and intimate atmosphere. It was the ideal setting for a memorable meal, whether it be a romantic dinner for two or a gathering with friends and family.
In addition to the exceptional garlic bread and sirloin steak, the menu at Sonja Grill offers a wide variety of dishes to suit different tastes and preferences. From seafood delights to vegetarian options, there is something for everyone. The attention to detail and the use of high-quality ingredients are evident in every dish, ensuring a consistently excellent dining experience.
While the focus of this review was on the garlic bread with cheese and the sirloin steak with peppercorn sauce, it is worth mentioning that the dessert selection at Sonja Grill is equally impressive. Indulging in their delectable desserts is the perfect way to end a satisfying meal.
In conclusion, Sonja Grill in Protaras is a culinary delight that deserves a five-star rating. From the unforgettable garlic bread with cheese to the mouthwatering sirloin steak with peppercorn sauce, every dish I tried was executed to perfection. Read moreNestled in Protaras on Hotels Avenue is SONJA GRILL & WINE, a splendid dining venue owned by Andreas and Kate Georgiou, known for the renowned Promises restaurant. This restaurant is a treasure trove of culinary delights, offering a varied menu from grilled specialties to seafood, pastas, and pizzas, not to mention an impressive wine list.
Dining here was a delight. The rooftop setting offered a refreshing respite from the day's heat, accompanied by a serene breeze. The staff were a highlight—welcoming, attentive, and insightful about the menu options, contributing to a seamless dining experience. The Zambartas wine was a personal favorite, having had a memorable experience at their winery previously.
The variety of dishes, including prawns, mussels, and an array of starters, accommodated everyone’s preferences, even those with more selective tastes. The generous portions of the mixed grill left little room for sides, and each dish, from the lamb chops to the seabass, was a hit.
While every dish was well-received, the Carbonara packed a garlic punch, amusingly noted as “garlic for days” by my sister, highlighting the restaurant’s bold flavors. It’s clear that each dish is crafted from carefully selected, fresh ingredients, showcasing their commitment to quality.
In summary, SONJA GRILL & WINE stands out for its impeccable service, quality dishes, and cozy ambiance, making it a must-visit spot in Protaras. It promises and delivers an exceptional dining experience, and it certainly left us, and especially our taste buds, with unforgettable memories.

Read moreWas looking forward to eating here but there is significant issues with food and drink quality!
Extremely busy- suggested booking as the proprietor was send people away who did book.
Inside- 1st flooor- massive area for dining.
Extensive menu.Unfortunately the food was below par.
The mixto Frito was mixed sea food of prawns, scallops, anchovies and squid- I imagine out of a frozen bag that was overbattered and fried- was terrible dish. The scallop was the worse part in the dish as it was so chewy we had to spit it out.
The steak Diane was ok- the meat was cooked to right level as suggest medium rare but the Diane sauce spoilt the dish as it was made with tomatoes or it had tomatoes in it which changed the taste of the sauce, chips underdone so was limp.
The calamari was the better dish- perhaps overdone in the a grill as had a significant coal taste. The chips same issue with the steak.
Food was generally under salted.
Strawberries margarita tasted of fake strawberries. Was very average as was the cosmopolitan.
Was appalled when we ordered white and red wine by the glass- It arrived in a screw cap small bottles of 187ml which is similar to that on flights. Both terrible options of wine. Highly disappointed by the poor tasting wine and cocktail offerings.
Tiramisu for desert was good.
Service was good -the Asian lady was good/ efficient but the other were slow and would walk pass without taking orders etc.
A very disappointing meal in terms of...
