Beware of room 109: My partner and I checked-in on Saturday 11/2/22 for one night only. The room we got was modern and lovely and the young receptionist nice and polite, but unfortunately, the room happens to be located above the Billa supermarket literally next to the shop ventilation system that kept whirring, humming and thudding all night long. I could not fall asleep at all, so I dialed the reception which was closed as there is no 24/7 service. I finally fell asleep at about 4 am. I told what had happened to the receptionist the very next morning upon the check-out. He knew this was indeed an issue and apologised. I asked for some kind of compensation and he kindly called his boss whom he first apologised for disturbing him on Sunday. Since the hotel has a no-refund policy, the boss offered something else instead... a bottle of wine of my own choice. I took it since it was clear there was no real sense of apology, but I personally found it highly insulting and extremely unprofessional. My partner & I would have gladly gone for a different room in the very same hotel had we known this might have happened. As for the compensation, if no refund can be given, then a next-stay discount or 50 per cent off for that experience would have been better than a bottle of wine that I could buy in that very supermarket downstairs for €3 or €5, not €60 which we had paid for the stay. What was supposed to be a relaxing one-night stay resulted in a sleepless night and an early return to Prague on a beautiful Sunday morning. Absolutely appalled at the way the issue was handled. It would have been only 1 star were it not for the young...
Read moreWe stayed at the Hotel Grand for one night during a long drive home. The hotel is no longer grand - it’s glamour and fame is long gone, the hotel now occupies one floor of the historical building, there is a supermarket on the ground floor and various other business in the same building. We'd chosen it due to proximity to the old part of Tabor, the free on-site parking as well as the reasonable price.||||The hotel is easy to spot on the high street/square, however the access to the hotel and the parking is from behind the hotel (behind the large linden tree). The receptionist’s directions were very helpful and easy to follow. Beware there is a long steep stairwell from the car park to access the hotel.||||We had a double room with on-suite bathroom facing the square with the busy junction. The windows were well insulated and the noise didn’t bother us. The room was perfectly adequately furnished and equipped. The bed was comfortable, however the bed linen was really poor quality. The bathroom was clean, the stand alone bathtub was great for a long bath after a whole day of travelling. ||The receptionist was very friendly and helpful.||Breakfast is served in a smallish room that serves also as a reception. It was basic, but fine - we certainly didn’t go hungry. ||A simple but conveniently located hotel on the border of the...
Read moreWe had a paid reservation for end of April and arrived there at 12:45 in the afternoon. We had double parked in their rear parking lot and we needed to make sure it was okay to leave the car there pending the 2:00 check-in time.||||Unfortunately, climbing the stairs in the rear (the only access) and buzzing the reception, we found that there was nobody there! A man did finally answer the intercom, but we could not hear what he was saying and he would not buzz us in. Turns out the reason he couldn't is that he was not on site.||||We were in an awkward position. Left at the top of this industrial stair, facing an opaque steel door and having to decide what to do with our car below. We left to get a room at a different hotel. We had no choice. I did not want my car to get booted.||||In my threads with the owner since, he has declined to give any refund or even to apologize for leaving his business unmanned in the middle of the day. Their web page says that the reception is staffed throughout the day. If nothing else, just be aware that that is not true. ||||The hotel looks like a decent place and I always try support family-owned business over chain. But as a matter of principle, I will not be giving them my business when I...
